You need to enter in the 20 digit FSC code. The maps on the USB stick is only 1/2 of the equation.

You can either purchase the FSC code from BMW, or you can reach out to someone that can generate the codes for you. FSC codes are VIN+Map Year specific.

A few people like Sergej and myself have the ability to assist in this regard.

I am interested in doing this. I have a 2009. Will the realistic graphics from the newer nav systems show on my car with this update?

It will display the same as what you currently have. YOu already have the CIC so you're in the clear. I am not sure what you meant the realistic graphics from the newer navs. Unless you're talking about the NBT ones.

If you were talking about the satellite view, then i believe you need an entire software upgrade.

OK, sorry to revive this thread but I was at my dealer checking out a new frozen blue M3 just for fun and I see a USB stick for sale for $40 to update my navigation maps. Not really trusting my parts guy I ask if it is as simple as plugging this in the maps will update. He says yes and supposedly goes to talk to the tech who handles these things, confirming it is a simple plug in update.

Should have searched before buying but sounds like it is not as simple as I was led to believe! What does the dealer charge for this FSC does? I assume it way more expensive than Sergej offers the code for....

Never mind, I hope. Spoke with the parts guys and asked about the "code" mentioned in the directions. He called back and gave me my code. Don't have time to try and load the update tonight as we have plans but will try tomorrow. Hopefully the code he provided is the proper FSC code...

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I saw a pic from a newer M3's nav with what looked to be a google map/satellite type image that looked 100x better than what mine currently displays. Was hoping this would be in the update.

Got the thumb drive from Tischer (www.getbmwparts.com) and the FSC code from Sergej. Install was seamless.

But... so far, the 2013 North America map "upgrade" is WORSE than what I had with my 2010 maps. Several POIs (that were accurate with 2010 version) are either missing or have incorrect address with 2013 version. My office is actually listed under a neighboring town!! What the...?!?

I haven't taken any notable road trips to see how the interstate routing works, but frustration on the local level has made the $100 investment less than worth it so far...
