Police admit they're 'stumped' by mystery car thefts
This is scary stuff. I hope BMW's are one of the cars that these devices won't work on.

Scary, yes. But if you are smart and don't leave anything valuable (and visible) in the car, you should be ok. If they jack it, BMW SOS can shut the motor off, right? Haha!

This not something new they had these code cloning since 2008. One way to protect yourself is to lock ur door manually insted of using the remote

I dont think its a code cloning thing. When you watch the video, you see the one guy walking by cars until one opens then he goes back to it. This is something else... Probably a DIY on piratebay...

this is rife in the UK, its key cloning via odb port, you need the "security" update from BMW to stop this happening, basically they break the side window, hand down to ODB port (alarm blackspot) and plug the tool in, attach blank key and clone. Then use key to unlock./switch car alarm off and walk drive way.
the other way other than breaking glass is to jam a screwdriver in to the lock, keep it turned to the unlock position and the window will come down. To test if your vulnerable, place your key in the lock and hold it in the unlock position, if the window comes down then you have the issue, if not you have the update. |

Sorry your correct, bad assumption on my behalf!
just reading the title it sounded exactly like what the UK has had, bit worrying if this is true, but it could be they are using using the lock method and returning, or even a signal jammer, all speculation of course |
