Question for someone who's removed the radio trim.

I'm looking at getting an M3 in the next month or so. All but certain that I want to add a Passport 9500ci as well. I've noticed that if the car does not have heated seats, or a rear sunshade (options I don't really want anyway), that the entire bottom button row on the instrument panel is gone. Like in the picture below.

I think this would be a perfect place to install the 9500ci screen and button controls. I'm curious about if there's enough room behind there for that to happen. I think it only really need about 1/2" to 3/4", but according to this drawing of the entertainment system, there may not be enough room.

Can anyone confirm (or speculate) if they think this would work or not?
