I'm thinking lead based on his car year. It wasn't until 2011 that lead started to get phased out entirely.

Yea its a 2010 model so pretty sure were lead. Put in WPC treated ones when I had supercharger installed, upgraded rod bolts as well since engine was already cracked open.

Reading this and other similar posts makes me very hesitant about buying the M3. I understand the M3 is a performance car, and from my research actually pretty reliable. However, knowing there is a risk of engine blowing up even at lower mileage is a serious concern. For sure that I would get rod bearing service done, but since the problem is in the bearing clearance and not the actual bearings, does replacing the bearings fixes the problem in the long run or do people have this done every 30-50 K miles?

Something has to break/not work for a warranty to be used. So if a rod bearing fails completely resulting in a rod knock/spun bearing type of engine failure, then the warranty will buy you a replacement engine. They won't inspect for bearing wear as a part of warranty coverage, and the amount of labor to do that is almost the same as replacing the bearings as a preventative measure.

Okay for example people decide to replace the bearings as preventive maintenance and finding them to be in worn/bad shape. Would they be able to send pics of the bearing poor condition and then have it done under warranty? |

I have CPO on my car until June 03 2015. One option is to get a CPO wrap but its only valid for 1 more year or until car reaches 100K miles. Currently at 65K, 09. cheers, Lutfy |

I was actually on the phone with Carchex a couple of days ago, and they told me the M was on their exclusion list. Same thing with PenFed. |

Check out the Mercury Platinum Plan. Covers pretty much everything and then some.

This I find interesting. Got my extended warranty through USAA which uses Assurant/Carchex. They clearly knew my car was an M3 but had no issue covering. Of course I have yet to file a claim...

The F'd up part about these companies is that they subcontract a third party company to handle damage inspection. These are untrained noobs that know absolutely nothing about anything. They are paid to pretty much try their absolute best to deny high cost claims. My mechanic pulled my oil pan and showed them the tennis ball size hole in the block and explained to them the bearing was spun. They then wanted to know what caused the bearing to spin and how do they know it wasnt owner error? They wanted to know the cause of failure although we already told them it was the bearing. They keep pushing oil starvation which of course is a way out to deny the claim. |
