2008 E90 M3 6 Speed Quarter Mile times w/ Vids
Alright... so it was time to take the M3 out to Speedworld, here in AZ... and do some qtr mile passes... I was hoping for a 'cool' morning... but unfortunately it was almost 70' be the time I was getting the traction sorted out... and put the Density Altitude at almost 2,300 ft!
Car ran great... but 20's are NOT the best for the 1/4 mile! I did pull off a 1.92 60' on my last run... and a best ET of 12.8... my best MPH was 111... and honestly... my last pass was on track (at the 1,000 ft mark) almost 2 full mph ahead)... but I was shifting slower the last run... to make sure I'd just get a 'clean' pass without wheelspin... I should have speedshifted 4th... like I had been! UUGGH! The Track guy said no M's (m3 or m5's) ever crack 12's at the track...so the challenge had been thrown! It was a great time... but honestly... the M3 is clearly meant for curves... and not 1/4 mile! My times adjusted to 12.4 @ 114 at sea level. Sweet
Buddy,
The car sounds amazing. Clearly the 25 series tires are not going to get you down the 1/4 mile. I'd guess you'd do 12.60's at 113 in better weather with different tires. Nice job Dave. Next time, maybe you should try shifting a little quicker. |

Hi Guys... I was using Pump gas... for the most part... other than I was almost on E... so I put 1 gallon of 100 octane in the car once I got to the track.
Mods are: PowerChip Tune / Riss Racing HiFlo Cats & Cat Back Exhaust / HP Auto Crank Pulley / RPI Scoops & M/S Filter. Yeah... MV... I used to live in Portland Oregon... and it was an 'easy' .2 and 2mph... faster... even when AZ weather was 'perfect'... It's tough to get a density altitude of less than 1100 ft here... After seeing that my 13.0 was only doing 98 at the 1,000 foot... and still trapped at 111... and my 12.8 was doing just over 100 at the 1,000 foot... yet only trapped at 109... I think it would have even went 12.7 @ 113 in the shitty weather... and probably go 12.4 or 12.5 @ 114 come January... when we can get in the 900 ft range for DA. I shouldn't have shifted early from 3 to 4... on the last pass.. it clearly hurt... but it was the first pass that FINALLY 1st and 2nd were 'decent'... and I didn't want to risk shifting at REDLINE and bumping the limiter... so I pulled a conservative 3-4... Peace, Dave
