Lightbulb Air Filter recommendations please?

Hi All,

I have a 2011 E92 M3 and I need to change my Air Filter. Currently have the OEM. What should I consider, AA green, K&N or stay with stock. Appreciate the advice guys

Afe has a nice dry filter if you don't want to mess with the oiled filters.

I recently took out my AFE dry filter to clean it and had a new OEM filter that I put in car. Immediately I noticed how much better a even semi dirty AFE flows over OEM. They are Really easy to clean also.

Abrasion on the internals.
You don't want any micro dirt passing through a high flow filter into the engine. Look at the Clevite site. A major contributor to wear on bearings is dirt, plain and simple.

Clean oil, (OCIs often), is the best approach and OEM air filters !

In what way Rev, better induction noise I'd assume, hardly no noticeable power diff right?

Stick with OE, it filters better.

If the aftermarket filters were allowing excess amounts of dirt, it would have shown up on the 100s of blackstone reports we've seen here.

Maybe....
But many engines have locked up right after seemingly good "healthy" oil reports....

The rod bearing problems are frustrating because it's not always predictable through blackstone reports. People have also had them go out right after a new oil change. But none of that suggests that the blackstone are actually inaccurate. Run your car without a filter and I guarantee it will show up in the oil 100% of the time.

Hmmm, oiled cotton (K&N style) filters are frequently run on off-road vehicles without issues. The BMC, Dinan, and AA Green filters (and several others) are this same type of filter medium. Probably not an issue to use these oiled cotton type of filters. There are specs on particle size allowed through the filter that could be useful if you live in an area with lots of airborne dust, like Qatar or United Arab Emirates.

Yes induction noise was first thing I noticed. It was almost eerie having that gone and it felt like the top end was not as strong also it's noticeable.

I planned on running OEM filter for a while but only made 2 days before AFE
Went back in.

All is good again..

Found a good deal here on the forums and picked up the macht schnell air filter. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell much of a difference with sound or performance.
