Question Question On Opti Coat ...

after application is there a dry time period that you can't use the car?

do detailers normally apply on glass as well? ive seen youtube videos and water just repels off so smoothly. any hazing or vision impurities?

how much do detailers typically charge to have this treatment done? i would do it myself, but it says the car must be clean before application (ie clay, etc).

lastly for car detailing, you only use wax right? no sealant and claying?

Solvents flashes within a couple minutes and 24hrs for bonding to the surface to occur. Opti Coat can be used on glass, wheels, paint etc - no impurities if applied evenly.

$300-400 depending on how much "prep/polishing" is involved with getting your car ready for opti coat to be applied.

After opti coat there is truly no need to wax or seal, it will literally last a week or less on top of OC.

^ +1!

The paint SHOULD be perfect before applying Opti-Coat. Really need to make sure you get it scratch/swirl free and free of contaminates before you apply it!

i'd stay away from that and stick to traditional polish, wax, and sealant.

Out of pure curiosity, why?

I know lots of detailers recommend it, but I also realize they're trying to sell a service or product.

cause if you don't apply it right, it will leave marks; can't remove those, nor can't fix them.

Yea, but if you have a pro do it I think it will turn out great. Of course it's a bit pricey though

You can buy it and try it out yourself. Just have to be careful when you apply it. The biggest difficulty is the preparation. The surface should be perfect before application as it will lock in anything under it. It is a permanent coating but you can remove it by polishing it out.

hey tech, did you get opti coat on your windshield as well? do you see any hazing, reflection, etc or the visibility is still like oem? and if you got the coat on your rims, do you notice any difference in brake dust? im sure opticoat or not, a spray of sonax will do better?

so to wash the car just use soap and rinse off, no wax/seal?

to remove you polish it away? wouldn't that also polish away the oem clear coat beneath it?

when i take delivery of my car, i probably will get this done asap when paint is still fresh.

thanks for the help guys.

No visibility issues at all. You will be fine. It essentially adds 2 microns on top of the clear. So anything that has OC on it will be more durable and easier to clean. brake dust will sit on this hardened layer and will only require car wash soap and mitt to remove. You will not need wheel cleaner to clean the wheels.

Polishing OC away is pointless if the paint has been fully prepped and polished before application.

hey martin thanks for the reply, got one last q for you ?

what bout rock chips on front bumper and scratches that may occur? with oem paint, you get a paint pen and fill it and apply clear. would you just reapply opticoat in the area to fix them?

Mine is just on the paint afaik. I've only had the chance to wash once since it was applied. I haven't driven the car in 3 weeks.

Definitely not. You will want to invest in a clear bra for this.

I'm more of the traditional "polish, wax, sealant" person.

Polishing OC would be pointless unless you messed up the application and wanted to level it to reapply.

OC is "permanent" but it will eventually wear off through regular use and general wear and tear like any coating you add. But unlike most sealants, the durability is years rather than months.

I have applied OC to hundreds of vehicles. I always apply it to the glass, wheels, literally everything you can...

I applied it to a car that wasn't touched for 18 months and clean up was a breeze, no bullshit.

Opti Coat is some strong you know what

I am considering getting a pro to put opticoat on my m3 after getting it detailed (as I know the paint needs to be flawless first)
the only thing is that I have clear bra on the front of the car, does that need to be removed?
