Oil analysis

Has anyone done a Blackstone oil analysis to see how the rod bearings are holding up?

This might be a rookie question but I'm just curious to see if an oil check is sufficient enough to evaluate rod bearings

yes. people have done black stone reports to see if there is any premature wear on their RBs. unfortunately, this has not been a reliable source for detecting wear or the need for RB replacement.

not a bad idea to do an oil analysis from time to time, especially on this engine. just don't expect or solely rely on that report to tell you if your RBs are gonna go.

to be quite frank with you, no. Oil analyses are very good in telling you how your wear materials are wearing. It's about a trend over a lengthy period of time. Many new forum members are "relived" when they get one single report back and the levels are within "universal average" (over Blackstone's millions of reports). So no, it's not a sole indicator or tell-tale of the condition of your bearings, but it will give you an indication of the wear over time.

oil analysis is also a good way to tell you how long you can stretch out your OCI. Pay the extra $10.

It would be $20 extra: TBN and TAN both cost $10.
