Thunderhill Nov. 10-11: Flying/Driving South for the Winter

I know a few of you have hung up your driving shoes/track wheels for the winter......but not me. A group of at least 8 cars are heading south from Portland, OR. to Thunderhill Nov. 10-11 for a BMW CCA track weekend. 5 are instructors and the rest of us are advanced students. One friend has a heavily modified E92, another with a 997.2 GT3 with MSC doubles, full Akropovic (used to have an E92 M3) and then there is me. I have been building an E46 M3 track/race car. It will come back from paint and Carbon Fiber roof install in a few days and we hope to have it together for this event.

Who else will be attending this event?

Thunderhill is a blast. There are a couple of corners that have that pucker factor. A friend of mine just got back from Thill and ran a 1:52 in an E46 M3race car......we hope my car can do the same eventually!

That's very fast! I ran a 2:08 on tuesday (we ran the track in reverse).

Here you go:

I guess corner 1 is a bit scary at speed. It is just a brush on the brakes and believe you have it right. This car had lots of aero/down force. I dont have the front splitter built nor the canards nor 13.25" x 70" rear wing installed yet. so we dont know what times my car will run without aero.........certainly not 1:52

Which config? Over the top of turn 5 or bypass?

Edit: Just watched the video.. that is bypass config. Cyclone turn 5 config will add about 10 seconds to that lap time. Still very fast!

10 really? I was told it's about 2-3 seconds. It's not a direct comparison, but my fastest time through the cyclone is around 2:11 and my fastest time through the bypass (going in reverse) is 2:08. But I'm not sure if there's a huge difference in time going clockwise vs counter.

Yes, it is 2-3 sec for an M3.

Hmm... I haven't tried bypass in the M3 before. I'd think bypass is much faster as you are cutting out a whole corner. My fastest time in my Evo with street comfort coilovers, trunk subwoofer, spare tire, a passenger and RE01R tires was 2:09 over the top of turn 5 cyclone. In the stock M3 I got a 2:17 over the top.

We are still working to get the car ready for this event. It was basically a bare chassis with 1 1/2 weeks to go. All electrical needs to be sorted, new fuel lines, lexan windows, install engine, trans, diff, drive line, etc........ Everything is easy but the electrical and fuel lines. It will be very close and take some luck that something unexpected doesn't show up. Stop by and say hi......if we make it.
