And maybe a few left over parts from the GT2RS and GT3RS. I am a fan of Porsches but this one is a little pricey. I'd just wait a year or two for the depreciation to kick in. Still, it is an awesome car.

For the record, it is Mezger not Metzger.

I believe it's 185k. About 25k more than a RS 3.8 and I.M.O a lot more bang. Under 3000lbs wet, and 500hp all motor. What. A. Drivers. Car.

It's rumored to be about $185k base. Considering that a .2 RS was $132,800, the 4.0 RS is more like $50k+ more. I love this car, however, as much as the sub 3000 lb weight is very attractive it is only 20-30 lbs lighter than the RS and hopefully that is not in part due to option delete.

It isn't, its due to carbon fiber panels and a plastic rear windshield

That's cool, thanks. I knew about the rear window and carbon bits but sometimes Porsche advertises weight reduction with a radio or ac delete as an example.

Anyway, the numbers speak for themselves. I am just not all excited about 22 less lbs. It is obvious Porsche wanted to tout less than 3000 lbs and 500 hp. The latter is uber impressive for a NA 4 liter. Downforce is crazy as well; especially the front.

The radio and AC delete are still no cost options

Yes they are. My point being they sometimes use this data to tout lower weight than your average equipped car. They did not in this case.

For this car, and its ultimate purpose, it doesnt need much other than what it already has IMO.

Its a truly spectacular car.
Not really that significant when you consider it's only 22-24 lbs lighter than the .2RS. Or one could say that the following are significant as well: GT3 ~3075, RS ~3020, too include the 4 liter RS ~2998. PCCBs would of course make it lighter as it would across the board. People like nice tidy numbers. So to say this car has 500 horsepower in a sub 3000 lb package was obviously important to Porsche. In reality if it were the same weight as the current RS or 3005, 3003 lbs, whatever, would have no effect on performance. If the 22 lbs is that important then that person should be driving a CUP car.

I am not knocking this car. I am saying that people are all caught up in the weight when in reality it is not very much lighter than the RS; which is fine. At this level weight reduction is hard to achieve. The power and downforce really make this car run. And, yes the whole package makes it tick. But, at $52K plus over a .2 RS it is expensive. This car well equipped will likely be very, very close to $200k or more. At least .2 RS's residuals will not be affected.

With that said I get wood just thinking about driving one. I broke mine out for spring this weekend. Even driving to the grocery store is an event; and a good one.

Wow, sick power to weight ratio, sick. Not quite MP4-12C level, but still pretty crazy. 125 hp/l is crazy as well, right about the same as the 458 Italia. Had to laugh at how bad the autoblog article got the aero specs. The ENTIRE car develops ~430 lb of down force at top speed, this DOES NOT come JUST from the front flics. It comes from the entire aero package most notably that honking big wing. 430 lb of down force would tear that bumper cover off in an instant.

It's funny how you praise Porsche every time the topic comes up and sound like you work for the Porsche Porpaganda department, but you don't know the difference between a Cup car and a RSR..Fawkin hilarious

Oh yeah forgot to remind/mention. Why can't M division interviews/adverts be this good? This is a recurring theme... Oh well generally faster cars, much more $$ and more profits to spend on marketing. BMW could improve here even without spending a bunch of money.

Limited production car. This will be the largest engine ever for the 911. Kinda makes this a "special car", and I think I speak for the majority when I correct you, nothing about this car, including the brakes are shit. This is a much different car than the F430, not really a logical comparison. Which one do you have?

As for the engine, the 991 GT3 will get the 9A1 engine. It will likely be 3.8 liters and pushing 475-480 hp.

This car is a swan song of the Mezger block...and boy does it deliver.
How do you know if it "delivers"??? None of these cars are in the US yet. I was talking to my Porsche sales rep. about this car and it will come here around September or later if you order it now. Base price is $185K plus whatever you want (PCCB not included and I would not put that piece of shit in it anyway) It is hardly a bargain when you can have a F430 scud for the same price.

I hate to split hairs but why isn't an F430 Scuderia a good comparison?
Both are track oriented sports cars.

It could produce a *peak* torque value like that, but instead BMW has chosen to give it a flatter torque curve for better driveability.

And why is it, Porsche can make money on all these limited run, special editions, but BMW can't bring over a GTS type car here? Because it cost too much to federalize?? Really??
Think about what you are saying. This special 911 *starts* at $185k! BMW could never sell a streetable M3 for that much money in the US. Ever.

If I had that kind of money I'd probably spend it on something else. Probably on an Atom or Radical for the track (with a tow vehicle), and something very nice in the $100k range for the street. Or nix all that and just get an "exotic". But that's just me.
