Yeah that's how they are.....

Best bet is to find a used one to drive

though it won't be a 2012 :/

BMW is no Porsche, BMW is no Ferrari.. BMW is a normal luxury sports brand like Audi, MBenz etc
And BMW, Audi, and Mercedes are all standard service cars in Europe. They are used as taxies and police cars. Only in America does the automobile brand elitism show up.
Are u sure about that elitism existing only in America? Have you driven on the autobahn before? U know there's a hierarchy order in place right? Porsche first and BMW second and All others move out of the way.

I'd take a 4 door ZCP 6MT M3 over a 12' GTR anyday, but that's just me. I optioned one with speed cloth, nav/permium. comp package, stereo and it came to about 63 grand MSRP. A similar GTR I optioned was 92k. Honestly i'd buy the M3 and spend the rest on an R33 RHD GTR from Japan or a Boss 302 for track duty....

In my opinion the M3 has a sense of usability and refinement a GTR couldn't touch. The chassis is also more communicative, the overall feel (steering to quality of materials) is better and it is simply more fun on the track despite it being significantly slower. Don't believe me, then get away from the keyboard and behind the wheel.

Now if we are magazine racing and comparing numbers then obviously one car is truly Godzilla. If that's what your after, the sheer brutal speed(11 flat 1/4 miles!!)/bragging rights then you won't be happy until you get one.

No, but it's the worst here. This is the country where Japanese auto makers had to create luxury sub-brands just to compete. Then there's the fact that BMW, Audi, and Mercedes don't bring their lower-end (aka economical) models to the US to dilute their "luxury" branding here.

The fact that you said you'd never buy a Nissan for 100k proves my point.

Objectively, I dont see how anyone could take a M3 over the GTR....the GTR is faster, handles better...GTR's are faster around the track even when compared to 911's and 911 turbo's...they are faster than GT3's and analogous to 911GT3RS's.

But they are hideous to look at and doesnt carry the presitige...if this matters then I would pass on the GTR...but if objective performance is key, GTR is alot of car for the money.

I have driven many sports cars in the past and the M3 is a sportscar/touring car that does many things very well and you can use it as a DD but as a pure sports car and for the weekend, I wouldnt look at an M3....too soft and handling not precise enough.

The GTR should be compared to the F10 M5. Not the M3.

Still not a match for the 2012 GTR.

I have a hard time visualizing an S65 AMG making way for a 320i

BMW simply doesn't make a car that competes directly with the GT-R. M6 would be the closest but that's a stretch still.

2012 GTR 0-60 in sub 3 seconds. if you care about that kind of stuff then go for the GTR, it'll demolish anything out there performance wise for a lot less money.
go for the M3 to save money and drive a nice looking sports coupe with plenty of performance for the regular joe.

Vanilla 911 is too slow.
911 turbo is comparable, but it'll be another $50k on top of the GTR.

R8 will have to be the V10 to get similar performance, and it'll be another $60k on top of the GTR.

An optioned M3 is some-odd-teen K's away from the price of a GTR.

And a purist would call neither a purists car.
Both are too big, too heavy, too uninvolved (m3 lacks the handling, gtr lacks the involvement).

We're talking GT cars here, not sports cars.

It's okay. I'd rather have a Martini Porsche or an Aston.

Everyday use M3, money no object GTR

I thought through the exact same purchase and went with the 6MT M. I have never looked back - this is a car that wins you over in so many more ways than just a racer.

Aston's and Maserati's are more beautiful but the GTR has presence. Like the Panamera, people either love or hate the design but you will notice it.
