DCT lag Joke
Am I the only one who floors the car and BOUNCES off the damn rev limiter in 1st to 2nd? even though i am pressing the paddle at about 6-7K? it has happened 3 times now out of 7
my lag is a joke. btw, I am the guy who posted the video showing the joke lag at about 60% throttle. This timeI can assure you I am in S5 with 2000 miles and my foot mashing the pedal through the floor. |

Are you shifting when the shift lights come on? I remember in my E46 M3 with SMG the car spools up so fast in 1st gear and the tach couldn't keep up. If I tried to shift at redline, it was too late. If I shifted when the last set of shift lights went red, it was perfect. I never really looked to see what the revs were when shifting with the lights as everything happens too fast.
I'm guessing that you might have a slow tach which is causing you to hit the rev limiter in the 1st to 2nd shift. |

Eeeboy, I saw your video and it sure seemed to lag pretty bad. When I test drove a DCT, it had the same lag, just like your video. I changed my order to a 6MT right afterwards.

wow, 6MT drivers are pretty harsh. I guess all you can hope for is a fix/update. Hope it comes soon, DCT seems like an incredible technology to me and it'd be a shame if BMW can't iron some of these issues out.

my question is , is BMW even aware of this problem and are they really fixing it? Paying 3K more for a transmission that lags is a joke. I have no choice since I'm disabled , so I'm stuck with it. If I could go stick , I would.

Although I can not specifically say if something is wrong with your car or if it is different than mine. I can say that there is no way to entirely 100% eliminate the lag. Most folks cars seem to have much less lag at high rpm and high throttle application as mine does. Lastly you do need to learn to drive M-DCT, it is not SMG, not an automatic either. You do have to second guess the shift point given any lag, small or large, bearable or unbearable. The shift lights help enormously. Once you get over this small hurdle, the transmission, IMHO, is simply brilliant.

My lag is minimal...but sometimes it has totally ignored a shift command and other times it has totally skipped second gear! LOL

This has been covered before. Do people refuse to search?. The car shifts a lot faster under hard driving. It takes throttle position and engine speed into account. Try it, you'll see a difference between that and driving the car like a grandma.

enough with the lag crap, now that my engine is broken into, the up shifts are almost instant and im not complaining(on M mode). On S6/DSC off, full throttle with kick button the shift are brutal!

For the car to shift the instant you hit the paddle would mean the mechanicals (the actual moving parts) would have to move at near the speed of light. Bottom line, there will always be a small lag. Your lag sounds horrible, I am inclined to say something is wrong with your car.
However, Swamp said it best, this tranny is not a manual and its not an automatic either. You should learn to drive it for what it is not like a video game. Jason

As has been said before, in the lower gears at full throttle, the shift lights are your friend. The fact that BMW included shift lights with DCT lowers my expectations of future software updates making a significant difference to the timing. Not my ultimate preference, but I'm adjusting to watching the lights vs. the needle.

It could be that the gearing with 7 speeds takes better advantage of the powerband, not to mention the quicker shifts. Which is why the DCT spanks the manual, but I guess that is for show? |
