08 M3 with NEW iDrive possible?

Anyone thought about buying the parts needed to upgrade to the 09' iDrive setup? How much you think it would cost? Looks like you would need a new nav computer, new center console, and a new idrive mouse kit. It also looks like they took away the Nav dvd insert under the cd player. I want a 09' vert but the .9 APR on 08' verts is really hard to pass up.

any thoughts?

Even if possible, the cost in parts and installation to retrofit will likely be a lot more than the savings you make by getting the '08 model over waiting for an '09. In my humble opinion.

So if you really want the new iDrive, it's best to wait for when it can be had on an '09 car.

Yeah you might be right but I can get parts at cost. If its around $3-4k I might do it. You will prob get 4k off the MSRP for an 08 PLUS .9 APR which will save u thousands. With an 09' you might save $1-2k off MSRP AND SOMEWHERE AROUND 5-6% APR.

Really... all that hassle for a new i-drive when the current or now "old" one works just fine. Why don't you put your money into more useful things like performance enhancements? After all this is more of a performance car then a techie car.

Agree. I mean really this is a M3. The new idrive does not make or break this car. I would understand if you were getting a 7-series.

I believe PencilGeek is planning to pursue this. You might want to ask him what he's found out so far, if anything.

I have the old idrive and played with the new one. The new one is a lot better. If I wanted just performance I would have went for a coupe. I will add performance stuff later. I definitely want the new idrive and I think it would be thousands cheaper if I modify an 08 with .9 APR.

Here is my e46 M3 I used to have.

Or spend the money on a HPDE or some similar event/instruction/course.

aside from the userinterface and a little better functionality. is it a better navigation system? If it's all about the looks then I don;t understand the fuss. While I do like the new user enhancements, my main concern is that it gets me to where I wanna go and lets me control the M settings. Ask yourself, how often do you really use the Idrive?I use it maybe 15 percent of the time. Just my 2 cents

I can see your point. I guess I want it more than I need it. It all depends on how much I can get a new nav computer for.

The money spent on parts & labor will quickly nullify the potential savings granted by purchasing an '08 vs an '09. If you really want the new IDrive, you should wait. The ability to upgrade the IDrive is speculation at this point.
