The front interior will save you another 30lbs or so. I ditched the carpet, glove box, center console, and a bunch of other panels (except for the dead pedal).

Did you remove all of the little brackets and other bolted on stuff in the back? That's good for another couple of pounds. OEM Radio harness is like another 10lbs. (I installed an aftermaket head unit and front speakers - 5lbs). I just use the quick fit harnesses on the street and removed all of the OEM seat belts.

I kind of regret this because its a pain loading tires in the back seat...and not having the tires rest on the belt.

I think I'm at 3100ish at this point.

Wow all that stripping and 3200. Did you weigh the car when you got it? Means it must have weighed in the 3400 range. Less than 200 pounds of the e9x m3. Interesting

I didn't remove the radio harness. All of the brackets in back are gone, as are all the seat belts. Use the profi on the street as well. At this point I'm just gonna drive it. Don't care to lose all its functionality on the street for 100-200 lbs more.

I didn't weigh before. Was thinking I was starting at around 3300 but guess it was mid 3400 somewhere instead. I'm still almost 400 lbs lighter than my partially stripped e90.

E46 M3 curb weight is 3406.

You can quickly get down to 3100ish. After that you start really compromising street ability.

My E46 M3 is at 3140 with full tank of gas. It is pretty tough to get below 3000.

Stuff removed: rear seats, all interior carpeting, sunroof cassette, center console, air bags, parking brake, all AC components, all radio components including harness, windshield wiper, fog lights.

Stuff lightened: metal roof replace with CF roof, OEM exhaust replaced with BW race exhaust, OEM seats replaced with Cobra Imola Pro.

Stuff added: half cage, trailer hitch mount.

And I have sun roof so I probably started at 3450. That 3100 is doable with all front carpet, door cards, center console, sunroof probably but will save that for when has full cage and rolls on a trailer I think.

I love this car. I use to have a 2002 E46 M3 in this exact color with the CSL goodies as well. I miss it. It was the most problem free car I have owned since 1991.

I've also got a lightweight flywheel. Plan to add headers and the BW exhaust in the future.

I need to swap in the sunroof delete, install headers and the BW exhaust, remove some more sound deadening, air pump, one horn, and see about swapping in halogens for the xenons. That should get me close to or below 3100.

Lightweight flywheel - 10lbs

Still debating the 5sp swap...30lbs of weight savings! If I do that and a 3.91 then I'll have trailer.

All things to think about, in time! Depends how crazy it gets. I still would like to add a c6 z06 as well.

Thanks. Hopefully it is good for me as well. Wanted to find white but didn't happen. Already had several silver cars including another e46.

If your going that far might as well just get BW CF blanks for the headlights. I may do sunroof, rear diff, strip down rest of interior, but I doubt it. Right now I'm working out my brakes, bbk or stick with csl. Also plan on the BW v2 clutch. Handle the vanos and rod bearings and drive it. But if my past is any indication of my future I may go overboard and do something crazy with it also.

Why not go with a used C5 zo6 as a track car? Much lighter, much more powerful and even more track ready?

Anyway is anyone else surprised at the 3450 weight of the e46? Given the e90's weigh in at 3600 that really seems close given how often you read people call the e90 a pig? Given most e92 has the carbon fiber roof vs sunroof e46 but regardless 150 pounds is really not a lot different in my book. Sounds easier to strip down the e46 thought which I know is your point

CF blanks are a whole other level...halogens keep me street legal. The OE halogens aren't bad at all. Plus, bulbs are a LOT cheaper.

my plan is to get a c6 z06 in about a year to add to the garage. you are right their isnt as much of a difference as you would think. money is a consideration though and you stack up an e90 your out more than double what you can pick up a e46 to slap a bunch of parts on. im planning on saving on consumables as well. tires should last longer as well as pads and rotors.

The only place where you can really feel the difference is in a quick switch back but the E46 and E90 behave very differently. The E90 will oversteer vs the E46 which will understeer.

Isn't the E92 closer to 3700lbs? Either way, the S54 block is a heavy bitch. Almost any aluminum V8 will be significantly lighter.

I've never understood the complaint about weight focused on the M3 when you compare it to other cars in its time. Any competitor's car is about 4000 lbs. The only ones that are lighter are the 911 and the C6 vette...but those don't have the 4 door option.
