HPDE insurance poll

Just curious what percentage of those that track their M3 buy insurance, either for the season or on a day to day basis for each event. Who you use and recommend would be cool too. To this point I haven't but feel I probably should.

I buy insurance. I use Ontrackinsurance.com on per event basis.

that looks like it applies to your regular car insurance not hpde insurance specifically for the track.

There was a recent court case in Canada where an insurance company tried to deny coverage at a HPDE accident. The judge ruled that because the driving wasn't timed and there were rules for passing, it was NOT a racing event and the insurer had to pay up. Obviously, you need to look at your specific policy but for a driving school/HPDE it is less risky IMO. I actually called my insurer today (going to the track tomorrow

) and explained EXACTLY what I was doing. I do this every year or two just to be sure

They said I was covered and made a note on my file that we chatted. If I was timing myself I would NOT be covered and specific track insurance in Canada basically doesn't exist

On another note, my lawyer (who also attends HPDE's) says he is more concerned about personal liability than damage. That is, if he made a mistake and someone died or was permanently injured, he feels the damage to the cars is the least of his concern. I think the morale of the story is ensure your HPDE insurance covers liability too

this is not the case for almost any car insurance in the US. track events are excluded. i actually play softball with my agent and had a candid talk and he said no fing way its covered. all of the hpde insurance i have seen is only for a set value of the car that you determine beforehand and has no liablilty coverage.
