I cop can follow anyone for any or no reason all they want. He does not need any reason at all..
Maybe he was going to the same place as you, eh.

Why do you have a louder exhaust? Most people have a louder exhaust for one reason. To draw more attention to themselves because they are insecure.

Look at Me!

I think its funny your neighbors are giving you a hard time. I guess in a way you got the attention you were looking for

I totally agree, if you don't want tickets, don't attract attention to yourself.

That's definitely not true, a by-product of more power = more sound, there's nothing you can do about it if you want to "go fast", I Wanna go Fast!

The power gains by swapping exhaust alone are negligable. And certainly if you compare a quiet quality aftermarket exhaust to a loud one, I'd say the power gains are not noticable at all. There are many quality aftermarket systems that aren't illegally loud.

There's more advantage in weight savings by going to an aftermarket exhaust (from stock) than there is in power advantage.

There are plenty of things cops aren't allowed to do but following someone ain't one of them.Add to that the fact that all states have noise limits for automobiles and the only question one can ask is...."is the exhaust too loud under applicable laws?"

I'm sorry but unless you are driving a pro street dragster... no ticket is going to stand without a decibel meter. This is coming from someone who has been a cop. A lawyer would have a field day, the reason law enforcement has the meters is so they can accurately say your car exceeded the legal level.

On to the following, totally legal.

The cop does need a reason to pull you over, but the "talking to" was bull. He can in no way prove you were the car in question. If it continues to be a problem talk to internal affairs at the police department.

There is a huge difference between a good sounding exhaust and a ridiculously loud one that wakes up neighbors.

What about every Harley Davidson I've ever seen and heard. They are louder than ANY M3 that I've ever heard. And I've never heard of them getting tickets for noise.

I don't get that at all either, why they don't enforce loud bikes and I have two motorcycles.

It's a damned shame that living in a society means we have to worry about how our actions and choices effect other people's quality of life!!! I say screw everyone else......I'm the only one who matters!!

Hahaha I feel like the same things going to happen to me one of these days. The average speed limit in my area is ~55MPH, so when i choose (20% of the time) I can ride through my first two gears before having to slow down for the speed limit. I love It and I love my exhaust but I don't know about the other folks that are driving next to me are feeling about a this. So I don't piss anyone off I try my hardest to drive like that during the night when there no one on the road to hear my exhaust or complain.. but thennn theyre drunk drivers, check points, and the fact that if I'm anywhere close to a residential area I wake people up.

Every time I pass my friends neighborhood I get a text "sounds amazing" (another fellow M driver)..so it's loud enough.

if i add xpipes to these already loud mufflers one of these days I'm going to get out of my car and get hit in the head with a baseball bat.

The law is, If I can hear it at 50 feet, its too loud and illegal. This sucks for OP, and trust me there must be many complaints against OP for this officer to actually follow and write a citation. Good luck OP

Well the video posted of the guy shifting at 3k sounds mild. Do you shift at 3k around neighborhoods and local streets??? Didn't sound to obnoxious at all. I have a Granatelli on my Vette and it has a good sounding deep throttle to it. I never though in my neighborhood rev it up or drive fast. If you see in the video when the guy is obiviously speeding its way too loud and fast for the street. It just kills me when I see these guys reving thier motors in parking lots and streets. Parking lot pimp'n I call it.. Who goes around just reving their exhaust wasting gas trying to get everyone to "look at me look at me"..
There was a mustang cobra pulling up to the atm the other night while I was gettting money. The whole time while he was in the lot he just kept reving his exhaust. So irriatating!! It would probably sound good on the freeway or even just idling but to keep reving it, I just shake my head. Even in the Bmw videos when guys are showing their exhaust I could care less with them being stationary reving up. I wanna see what it sounds like in normal driving and when its slightly wound up. I guess I'm less tolerant now that I live in a really nice neighborhood thats quiet. Believe me I want a GT2 exhaust on my M3 but I just will drive really conservatiely around the house. I know I can as I have had a motorcycle with a good rumbling exhaust and have always taken others into consideration whether in my hood or someone elses. Its all how you drive it or not drive it. Oh and another thing speeding in neighborhoods is a big no no. How will you explain it to a judge when you kill a child that runs to grab his ball in the street. Sure he should have looked before he ran into the street but thats what kids do. Do you think a judge is gonna have mercy on you when you were speeding? This is just a general statement and not to attack the original poster..
