Yes you should definitely have the BT streaming. I haven't seen anywhere that it requires iDrive to have it. Hope the dealer sheds some light!

From BMW Product News No. 06/2010 (Feb. 2010) Bluetooth audio streaming:
"[...]Bluetooth audio streaming is available with either option 633 or 644."

Other thread says that and/or 6FL is also needed.

Now, I do not think that 633 or 644 are available in US. They seem to be a part of 639 - SOS/Bluetooth.

Calling BMW Customer Service. Continuing here...

Nice guy with BMW took down the questions and is going to followup. I hope he has a good answer for me.

would anyone with AVRCP 1.3 or 1.4 please post pics of their screens? I would love to see how it looks.

If you want to find devices with these bluetooth profiles, I am adding a link to find them.

In for bluetooth audio streaming and no iDrive. I've had the car for less than a week and am still trying to learn about all of the features. I will attempt this later and let you know how I fared.

anyone with a palm pre plus with webOS 2.1 on their phone and a M3 2011.5? That would pair together very nicely as I read webOS 2.1 has AVRCP 1.3.

I am using Windows Phone 7, so I assume my other option is a simple mini-jack cable to Aux. Any other ideas? How do the Android users manage this?

I am not going iPhone, iPod.
I have it on my 2011 X5.

So is the verdict that iDrive is required to enable A2DP streaming?

Yes, there's no other way by design and intention.

Well, I can understand why they do that, from a business perspective.

But as a customer, I'm looking at three grand extra to get the audio I want, plus nav, which is nice to have but not critical.

I know I get lots more from the iDrive interface etc, but to meet my particular needs, I suspect I can get a better sound system for half that price after market, that includes all the BT functionality I want -- aftermarket Nav.

Time to change my order and do some research.
