What fuse is for the interior ambiance door/shift orange lights?
I noticed the other night my interior ambiance lights (orange lights along the doors, ash tray and shift knob light) weren't lit. The orange lights for the front/rear map lights, EDC buttons, iDrive controller menu button all light up though as does the radio/HVAC orange backlights. I searched and only found some issues with the Bimmian LED's, however, mine are 100% stock. I checked the following fuses:
61, 77, 62, 07 Everything else seems fully functional, any ideas on fuse number?

headlights are on and it's dark out when they're not coming on.

I acted dumb and the dealer gave me a new OEM shift knob, replaced the module and recoded, took several hours. I was lucky.

i have the same issue now. i checked my fuses and connections to the footwell module. i even reset the footwell module via tool32. at this point i'm not sure what else to do.
the ambient light for steering wheel buttons, the interior doors, window switches, and radio do not light up. everything else like HVAC, dct knob, map lights, idrive work fine. completely baffled at this point. maybe my FRM module is toast? edit: it's possible i missed some fuses. if there are any suggestions i'm up for them. thanks in advance.

ok fixed it. i used tool32 again and reset the FRM short circuit fault via job "_reset_kurzschluss_sperre" except this time i got desperate and reset the entire list below. i initially only reset "0x16 interior lighting" which didn't work. it must have been something else that was preventing the FRM from turning on the ambient lighting.
i also had code 9CBB which was the short circuit fault in the FRM but it doesn't tell you exactly what it's referring to. attempting to clear it in INPA did nothing and only went away after i did a reset via tool32. hopefully someone finds this info useful in the future. So I recently had this exact same problem. The circuit counter I had to reset
was 0x1D Clamp 58g. After that my orange lights on the steering wheel, door switches and radio started working. I had an M3 shift knob that lit up that I got off ebay and I had spliced that into my coin tray lights. I guess eventually is caused the short because it no longer works. I'm so glad I was able to get this fixed! My dealer could not figure it out. |

module, not an old school fuse (due to LED low power draw). It can burn up the module though if it sees repeated shorts. Remember the shifter is metal and the knob is press fit on the shifter... not much margin for error, and if you get one short... well you can kiss the module goodbye.

I got my shifter light working again. I took out the the light assembly from the shifter knob then drilled a bigger hole and "canyoned" out some knob side material to give more relief for the wires between the knob and shift lever where the press fit is. So far so good! Upon inspection it appears the wires where just smashed between the knob and shift lever and caused the short.
I actually cut the old wires off up to where they connect to the led assembly and then soldered on new ones with shrink wrap. When the dealer looked at it while I had the car there for another reason they had no clue why it wasn't working and recommended an FRM module replacement that "might" work. I'm so glad this original thread existed because it was literally my only nugget of info beyond what the dealer told me. |
