You're kidding? It's a business deal. Shell pays BMW to use their brand and now BMW will endorse them, that's all. |

What this means now is all along we could have used any 10w-60, what we were made to believe was the engine would have gone kaput if we had used anything but TWS and voided the warrant. Simple.

Great to see what the new 10w-60 is all about (and how different it is from the TWS).
Myself I just recently bought a E90 M3 and just changed oil with a blend of TWS and M1 0w40. Many on here have UOA for TWS that shows higher wear amounts and using M1 0w40 have decreased or eliminated some higher readings. Now, i am SURE TWS and a heavier weight 10w60 will provide MUCH better protection when the engine is being pushed and ran hot (for example, during HPDE, Auto-x, track, epic long hot mountain runs etc), but for a lot of us here we DD out car, rarely go above 4-5k RPM. For myself espcially, being in Canada (Vancouver, where temperatures aren't as severe as back East), running 10w60 seems to be an overkill. But as many mentioned, topic has been beaten to death. And in all honestly, only a handful (VERY LITTLE) people have ever had engine problems related to oil choice. Just simply use whatever oil you feel like that makes you feel good and change it often to keep it clean and healthy!

Look maybe you have some additional insight that I don't however what I can speak to is that I've been working for Tier 1 suppliers for some of the largest OEM's in the truck and car markets for many years. Each one of them have specifications for us to meet as well as continuous involvement in many facets of the quality and product manufacturing. I stand by my position that BMW had involvement with Shell to help specify either additive requirements or specification boundaries. |

He posted Redline specs in the post. Shell appears to be very close as far as the documented specs read.

It will be interesting see if Castrol (Edge) TWS 10w-60 will now be available on the open market at a reasonable price. If the price is right why not continue to use it. Makes $$$ sense
