Meisterschaft GT2 + Macht Schnell x pipe = TOO Loud
So I've had the GT2 on for a year and it has been perfect with the stock xpipe. Just installed the catless MS xpipe and it is stupid loud. I'm afraid to ever open it up for fear of getting pulled over.
Will adding another set of resonators help? Or a different rear section? Is it possible I have an exhaust leak somewhere? |

Gt2 is one of the louder exhausts for our cars. Maybe get a quieter exhaust to pair with the MS xpipe? But the sound would be different if you liked the stock xpipe with GT2 sound.

Your problem is the Xpipe.
You can run the stock Xpipe with no muffler at all and it's all under control. With a full catless Xpipe, the OEM muffler will still be stupid loud You need to change your Xpipe. I have the ESS HFC one that has HFCs and resonators and it sounds wonderful with no drone over 2000rpm. When I say no drone I mean it. People have different ideas of what is drone and what isn't, but I'm quite sensitive to it. |

I'd keep the xpipe over the muffler since that's where the real power gains come from.

I have full catless x-pipe (primary/secondary cat delete) with OEM muffler. It's not that loud to me, but it really opens up the V8 growl. Of course, sound is subjective. I'm coming from an EVO that had FBO/catless and backfired like a mofo.

I tried the same thing and agree it is stupid loud and sounds horrible. I love the exhaust sound and am willing to forgo the power gains (Supercharger makes up for it ) and pain of having to swap out stock cats for emissions testing for that beautiful sounding GT2.
If you really like the GT2 sound keep the cats stock. If you want ~25HP change out the rear section and get a 4 resonator x-pipe. Good luck on your hunt for a proper combo.

For me it isn't a problem of volume. The ESS HFX Xpipe with the Evolve catback on 'loud' (muffler bypass) is quite loud. I just hate drone. I have to drive the car up to 10h to get to the track and drone drives me bananas |

Xpipe and MeisterSchaft GT2
I've had this exact set up on my E90. If I had to do it all over again with what you have, I would search out an ESS X pipe with HFC. Everyone that I've talked to says if you want minimal drone with a loud rear section go with ESS. An AKRA X pipe with cats (EVO) would work also but harder to come by. Having the MS X pipe frees up a lot of air and adds power. the MeisterSchaft GT2 is probably the loudest rear section behind the Super GT. If you're on the fence about keeping it. Have someone else drive your car while you watch and you'll realize what you have.
As said before its all subjective. |
