Does new DME mean most current update software??

Crazy question but does anybody know if you have a brand new DME installed, will you receive the most current software? Or will it default back to original software of previous DME?

So as far as modules go, my understanding is as follows:

Each software update will also concide with a new part number. And as long as the shop orders the "newest backwards compatible" part then yes, you should have the latest software.

Its possible that things are a little different for the DME and CAS though. I cannot confirm for sure.

Brand new DME will be encoded with the latest software available on the machine it's programmed with. If at the dealership, the latest without a doubt.

I had a friend that was having all sorts of issues; misfires and multiple codes and the Indy shop diagnosed his car as having a faulty DME. He's getting it replaced.

He's not on this forum but i'm pretty sure I can get it from him. I have to send my CIC unit for you to code anyways. I called your shop about 4 days ago!

I had a check engine light that came on. Into the dealer, they said it was a sensor that they reset. No issues for the last 5000km. Just prior to needing to service the rear brakes, I get a message from the dealership that my "part" has arrived.

I decided to wait until the rear brakes were going to be serviced and knock both out at the same time. Come to find out the "sensor" they reset was the DME. The part was a new DME.
Anyway, I will do my best to find out about the software when I pick it up tomorrow. If anyone ever has to have theirs replaced, it takes 12-14hr program.

Picked up my car yesterday. While driving back to my apt, I suddenly was alerted to a DSC failure, a DBC failure, FTM failure, and start assistant inactive.

Was driving down the highway at 120kph when it happened about 8 min after I left the dealership.
It will be back in on Saturday at 8am.

Having searched these items, I see this is not a first by any means.

Back from the dealer again.

It was the steering angle sensor. Thankfully was a relatively quick fix

No news on the software update. Service people are not overly helpful. Still trying and will just edit this post.

The DME does not take 12-14 hours to program.

If they are using the BMW ISTA or an outdated factory program tool, you can not program a single control unit...the computer has to program the whole vehicle. That is why programming can take multiple hours.
As independent diagnostic tool like the Autologic for example can program/code individual control units.
What were the fault codes you had for the DME replacement ?

Sadly, I did not find out what the code was. It was just after I had bought the car. Dealer originally misinformed me by telling me it was a "sensor" that the reset. Was a bit mad when I found out it was the entire computer being replaced.

Very true. They started at 8am and they called me around 2 to let me know it was ready.

The dealership in Dubai does not have a good reputation. If service was faster, it would go to Abu Dhabi for service. My F80 will be bought from the dealer in Abu Dhabi.
