OEM carbon performance spoiler

Installing it tomarrow. Looks like a pretty straight forward process.
However, I have never installed one before.

Any little tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Use fishing cord to remove the original one.

How cool. A friend of mine lives in Mission Viejo.

Just installed mine 2 weeks ago, take your time marking where it goes on the trunk, I fit mine with the backing still on the dbl sided tape. put blue painters tape on the trunk around the edges where it should sit. took the backing tape off the spoiler and just landed right back between all the painters tape. If your using the red backed 3M tape removal once its stuck gets tricky.

Did mine about 3 wks ago. Fishing line worked extremely well. I used gardener's gloves so the fishing line wouldn't dig into my hand. Once removed, I used the same gardener's gloves (with rubber contact surface) to remove old tape residue along with Goo-off by applying force with my hand to roll off the old tape (this was the longest process). Marked an outline on the ends of the spoiler where would fit with my kids' washable markers. Ended up using 3M tape..once use beta link, it's pretty much permanent. All in all very easy install.

Be careful with betalink, don't get it anywhere you don't want it and IMO not necessary. 3M dbl sided is just as strong but removable when you want to, not so much with betalink

I also put painters tape all the way around the stock spoiler before removing, just to make sure i didn't make any un-necesarry makes on the trunk with the removal process.

Goo gone is not needed either just a ton of elbow grease rubbing the old sticker off

Well if I use. 3m double sided tape won't it make easier for some one to just rip it off like some of the other forum members have had it happen?

I suggest using wax coated dental floss instead of fishing line. I made the mistake of using fishing line on my 335 and it ended up scratching the paint. Dental floss is not as strong and might break a few times but will eliminate paint damage.

good tip - I've used ental floss, fishing line & 550 cord guts & as far as not leaving marks, dental floss worked best for me....

BMW only charges 30 min labor if didn't want to screw w/it. After reading some of the other horror posts using betalink I pulled the old spoiler off & had the dealer put the new one on.

if someone wants to take your spoiler off, they gonna take it off no matter if you use betalink or 3M. they wont know what you have underneath. the difference is betalink might damage your trunk more than 3M once the spoiler is ripped off

There is no just ripping it off with 3M tape, they will destroy the spoiler if they do that.

If someone wants it really bad they will find a way. It s better to just stick with 3m tape. You don't want to damage the paint later on when you want to take it off yourself.

Also use goo gone to get the extra 3m tape that is left over from you OEM spoiler.

Agreed. Either way, it will be destroyed when they try to remove it.

To remove the stock one, use a piece of t-shirt and "saw" under it. Heat a few inches, saw, heat, saw, etc. No chance of damaging the paint. A 3M eraser wheel takes care of the tape residue.

I did mine with 3m tape. It came out good now when I upgraded the trunk on my e90 with lci lights I used beta link and never looked back. Just use a little bit. I used a syringe to apply the stuff and it came out great.

I know 3m makes several types of tape. Is there a specific one? Mabye a part number and a place I can buy it at?

I can get it off in one piece with bare hands. Never used anything. Done it before on my old E46 M3 and twice on my E90. Easy to do, just have to take it easy and work it slowly. That's why I prefer beta link

I am convinced that there are really only two kinds and all of the other varieties are the same stuff just relabeled. I use the "extreme hold" outdoor tape that is available at hardware stores.

It has held my lip on at 150 mph and my diffuser is held on with only this tape, no bolts.

I wouldn't use t shirt material. You don't see many detailers using t shirts to wax/wash cars for a reason.
