Techron injector cleaner at costco: 6 for $12

Just wanted to pass along that my local costco had the regular sized bottles of techron injector/ fuel system cleaner the other day, 6 in a box for 12 bucks. Same stuff as the BMW fuel system cleaner which is usually around $20 a bottle.

I think the concentration of Techron in these is much less than the ones which says Techron concentrate on the bottle:

The BMW stuff is the "concentrate plus".

Go straight for the Techron Concentrate (same stuff BMW has relabeled). The ProGard cleaner isn't worth your time. Concentrate has a very healthy dose of PEA, a proven cleaner.

Chevron quoted in BITOG link above seems to say only one Techron but concentrate has twice as much product. I would guess it depends on price for concentrate compared to Costco's. Even at twice the price it could still a little cheaper.

Just go pump Chevron gas... Techron is in it already. No need to add stuff.

You can get it BOGO pretty easily.

Not entirely true. Detergency in premium fuel is quite good (typically higher than EPA minimums), but periodic doses of these agents does provide benefits. BITOG has some good links to SAE papers that discuss this.

General rule of thumb over there is one treatment per oil change.

Just a recommendation. I would only add the extra techron before an oil change. It will dirty up the oil fast with the carbon cleaned from the valves. I have seen this in the past with my 318i when it was first recommended back in 1985 by BMW for carbon buildup. Back then I used to change the oil every 3k and it was definatly dirtier when I used it vs. not.

Debatable, but yes, doing it right before an oil change is probably safest.

Carbon buildup should not be very significant if you've been maintaining the car well.

What about the Lucas fuel system cleaner? Any body use that?
Probably better than the Techron stuff
