Almost new M3 value?
Anyone care to help a fellow enthusiast estimate the value of a mint fullyloaded 75k ZCP e90 a little over a year old and between 8-9k miles for trade in for a 2010 fully loaded e92 335i CPO? Thinking about trying something else with more down low torque along the lines of a 335, 5.0, SS, etc. The cobb 335 is currently the favorite with the 5.0 right behind it. 5.0 and SS felt a little big. I gave it a sincere effort, I really did try to have M3 in LA and I just can't do it. I rarely get to redline it, the gas mileage is terrible for a modern v8, and even my old e90 328i felt torqueyer below 3000rpm. Don't worry I'll be back one day, I've strayed from BMW from the past many times only to come back. I'm just a average Joe with a torque addiction living in a place where I can only garage 2 cars and I need my 5er for business affairs.

Along with the GTR the only FI cars I care for are the BMW twin-turbo I6 coupes; but they just sound and feel very close to NA. I loved the M3 for the time I had it, but the torque bug got to me.

If mileage is a concern putting a 5.0 and SS on the list seems odd. My previous 535i and 335i didn't have such a great city mpg either.
If you like mileage and torque, maybe you'll like the new Golf GTD. http://www.thesmokingtire.com/2012/e...olkswagen-gtd/ |

Not sure what the big deal is with people complaining about lack of torque, the S65 revs so quickly I've never found this to be an issue. Have you considered trying a new dinan diff with different ratio first?

Due to the fact the he said he never gets to rev near redline. Obviously he is not out to set fast trap times, rather have momentary fun in the city. Can't knock him for that.

This is great advice if you have whisper exhaust. I have been pulled over many times when 4000rpm in 2nd was mistaken for 60mph. Sound gets translated to speed by the po po.

Don't get me wrong, i loved my M3 but much prefered driving my 335 in city traffic. OP, if you are lucky your dealer MIGHT trade your my M3 straight across for a new 335 (depending on options). Most likely you will get 57-59K as a trade.

I also have between $2000 and $2500 in tint, clearbra, detailing and other mods that no owner would not like to have at least a little. My mod have absolutely no drawback, want darker tint? tint a layer of 60% on top of mine. And my cars front end is beautifully immacculate due to clear bra being installed prior to my 1200 mile service. Not a single rock chip, thats got to count for something right? Anyways based on your number I was wondering in consideration to the mods I will sell the car with, what sum value would you recalculate my M3 to have? Possibly $56-57k? Thanks.

BMW M division should have made the s65 a 4.4-4.6 liter V8 and the s85 a 5.5+ liter V10 for the low end torque. The e92+e60 M3+M5 have such poor gas mileage that switch probably would lose very few customers due to the increase in fuel consumption while drawing in and keeping much, much more due to the bountiful torque at numerous gears at any speed IMHO. Just drive the p31 c63, no downshift needed in LA/NYC/OC traffic. No need to rev past 5000rpm to get the bulk of the performance out of the car. Don't get my wrong I love revving out the s65 but I just don't get the chance to do that in LA without arousing the entire block, theres a copper every other block in downtown LA where I work it seems.

OP: I'm not sure about the value, but I am pretty confident that any mods will hurt the value. For one, even cosmetic mods can make it so the dealership can't sell it CPO. Some do anyway, but I believe BMW rules would not allow any non OEM parts to be installed. Clear Bra and Tint are likely exceptions since they don't replace stock parts, but they also should not add any value.

thanks for keeping it real though. Wow I thought it would be a good investment to put a clearbra on because of all those debris in LA and OC.

I never felt my 335i torquier than my M3, you're making a big mistake.
And the mileage was the same, no difference. On M3, if I'm not gentle on the throttle I lose traction, you can't use more torque.

Good investment for the person who puts it on, sure. But some folks (myself + others) just see it as a something that will likely yellow in a few years, and dulls the beauty of the paint beneath. I can live with a few small chips. When I look at a clear bra, I feel like I'm looking at gorgeous paint through slightly cloudy eye glasses.

I drive my M3 most of the time in city driving and moderately congested highways and don't have any problems. The car is a lot more fun to drive than my old N54 335i. |
