09 or 08 M3 sedan?

So basically the only differences between the 08 and 09 M3 Sedan is the IDrive and rear tail lights? I believe thats it. Would you waite for an 09 or get a great deal on an 08? $1000 below invoice plus the $1500 dollar BMW rebate for the 08. Or spend an extra 6k for the 09?

What do you guys think

I actually prefer the 08 taillights (with blacklines) and I don't have NAV. I guess it depends if those things are really important to you or you have money to burn.

I have an '08 with Blacklines. I'd take the deal on the '08 and save cash.

I just got into an 08 Sedan and am loving it. The 08 tails never did much for me but the 09's do even less. They look a lot better with the big M3 back end than on my old 330i.

Though I think you may have missed the specials on 08's, I think Feb 02 was the cutoff. You should still be able to get a good deal, if there are any left after last week the dealers will be be begging you to take them.

You need to shop a little harder for the '09. $500 to $1000 over is where the price is for an ordered car, that's only $2000 more than you're proposing for the '08. You may have to expand your dealer horizon because some are not dealing. If you take delivery at the Performance Center, then you may never need to set foot in the selling dealer.

I traded my '07 335i for an '08 M3 in mid December; the dealer was anxious and the deals were attractive for an M; just a couple of months earlier they wouldn't deal at all. I got invoice price, 0% financing, and free tire swap & storage for Winter/Summer sets, plus a few feel-goods (mugs, M-mats, etc).

09 looks so much better in the rear + LED light technology. New Idrive looks much more professional as well. But if you're saving like 12k or something from 09 to 08 then go for the 08.

Old iDrive is a deal breaker for me. I'm pretty much a technology geek (which probably explains why non-intuitive software drives me crazy). I'm sure it probably doesn't bother others as much as me (BMW sales improved after its introduction), but the new one in the '09 is a significant improvement by any measure.

Go to the dealership and test it out. Then see for yourself. If you can live with the prior iDrive, the deals on the remaining '08's are just fantastic. If not, order an '09 - you can definitely get one $500 - $1000 over invoice. Just ordered mine this weekend.

I think the 09 tailights look mundane. 08 looks out there.

Slightly off topic but if i understand correctly, invoice is what the dealer pays for the car from BMW. So why would a dealer be willing to sell a car at or under invoice if that would mean they would be either not making any money or losing money? Is the incentive to just move as many cars as possible as BMW will reward the dealership with more cars?

"Trunk money". Worst case, in a cash deal, is the dealer gets a rebate from BMW. "Invoice" is what the dealer pay up front, but it's not the true cost of the car to the dealer. If you finance, then the dealer will make a spread and collect some fees on the financing. If you allow the dealer to add on anything, like tint, etc., the markup on all that is 100% or better.

Hey, I'm getting an '08 sedan. In CA, couldn't find any good deals on '09s. The problem is they are offering me a "new" car with 120 miles on it. That's not exactly new in my opinion...am I right or barking up the wrong tree?

Those miles could have come from transporting the vehicle from one dealership to another, and from multiple test drives. I'd hardly fuss about the 120 miles.

The new iDrive is much, much, much better if that matters to you. Also, if you aren't going to keep the car a long time, say only 2-3 years, you probably make the extra you are paying on the 09 vs. the 08 on the back end with a higher resale for sure.

The '09 tails look way better, and the iDrive is a HUGE leap. Going forward the tails on the '08's are going to start looking dated.

Just decide if it's worth the extra thousands to you.
