Question on Break-In Service

I bought my '11 with 500 miles on it. Because of time, the dealer did the break-in service prior to me buying it.

Am I good to go at this point or would you do another break-in service at 1200? Talking to another dealer (closer to me), they seemed to recommend doing another service at 1200, but of course implied that it wouldn't be covered

500 miles may not be enough time for the break-in to be effective. If it were me, I'd do one at 1200-1800 miles.

Why would they need to do ahead of time?

Because of time. The oil was just over a year old.

Well with only 700 additional miles needed, I would have just waited. In your case since it was already done, you'd have to come out of pocket for it so it's up to you there.

Yeah, I would have waited too, but the dealer changed the fluids when they got it from auction.

It was a repro car from Hawaii. I really doubt that there's an issue with the car with 500 miles and it seems a little strange that you're implying that there is.

Story was it was bought 6/12 and the serviceman stopped paying 3 months later. Hopefully, he just didn't have the money...

Dealer tried to sell in Hawaii, but the market is limited, so they went to auction and it was bought by BMW dealer in Seattle area.

Thanks for all the advice.

Not implying anything. Auction cars always scare me, that's all. As long as it all checks out, nothing to worry about.

Nothing wrong with auction. It was likely sold through Manheim which independently inspects and grades each car.
