If you're getting close to the point where the shift lights are going on, you're probably not in the city or you're speeding a lot
Trust me, you hit it hard enough to the point the first yellow light is coming on and you're already sailing at way over whatever the speed limit is on that city road... I'm not here to tell you whether to speed or not, but yea those lights don't even start to come on until about 7,000+ RPM or so, which means you're pretty up there in speed probably. Besides, you don't need to use the "M" button to get your shift lights to turn on. Just turn them on using the left hand computer thing on your steering wheel. I don't know the technical name for it. The one that says BC I believe and you can hold it down to edit/change things. It's in the manual, I had to look it up too.

I have the shift lights programmed under m key settings (if you use the stalk, the shift light will come on, but won't stay programmed) and when am in s4 or s5 (without the m or power button activated) the lights will come on when am close to redline.

The stalk, I totally blanked on the name. And yes, I forgot that it won't stay programmed using that method.
