E46 M3 Sold more than E9X M3s!
I have always been under the assumption that the latest Ms sold better than their predecessors. But then I was reading an article and saw this sales chart for M3s for the past 10+ years. Clearly the LCI e46M3s were the best sellers - but they were cheaper as well. Just thought I'd share.
Calendar year Total production US sales 1995 54,720[13] 1996 50,248 1997 337,800[14] - 1998 376,900[14] - 1999 454,000[14] 77,138[15] 2000 509,007[14] 89,681 2001 533,952[14] 103,227[16] 2002 561,249[14] 115,428 2003 528,358[14] 111,944[17] 2004 449,732[14] 106,549[18] 2005 434,342[14] 106,950[19] 2006 508,479[14] 120,180 2007 555,219[20] 142,490 2008 474,208[21] 112,464 2009 397,103[22] 90,960[23] 2010 399,009[24] 100,910 2011 94,371[25] |

Yep that doesn't surprise me. Dont forget the economy wasn't doing too well during the E9x era either.

2) The US is not the only place where the M3 has been or is sold. So to be fair you need to look at the rest of the world ... it's a big world out there as you well know

If you guys read it again, it shows Total Production as the first number and US Sales as the second number.

According to autoblog.com (http://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/04/2...pward-edition/), BMW sold 247,773 cars in the US in 2011 and 220,113 in 2010. Based on that, as well as the fact the 2007 had no US M3s (whereas this shows 142k), I wouldn't be surprised if these numbers were for all 3-Series.

2008 was probably one of the hardest years for the entire country, if not the world. Financial markets crashed, people lost a lot of money, not to mention national debt, goverment spending cuts....

These numbers seem way to high to be M3 sales
Something does not add up. I've read somewhere that total E46 M3 volumes were in the 85,000 range, E36 M3 in the 70k range and the E30 M3 in the 16k... Don't know about the E9X totals yet as prod has not ended. Last edited by CanAutM3; 05-23-2012 at 07:54 PM.. |

The OP is clueless. Those are clearly not M3 sales. 142,000 US M3s in 2007? I believe the actual number is ZERO.

Thanks for injecting some sanity into this discussion. Those numbers posted are clearly NOT for the M3. I believe the target for the E9x M3 was ~100k cars worldwide (sedans, coupes, and convertibles), for the entire production run? At least, I remember reading this in the past.
