Just curious

No. They're a dealer installed option. They are cheap (for the dealer) so, often they will throw them in for nothing, if asked.

Dealers typically throw in a set for free, if asked. Depends on the dealership.

slows them way down. They either have to fumble thru a master set or drill 'em out.

yes this is true it does slow them down..

ill b honest I dont want them on my M but its always garage kept at night and when I drive to work its in a relatively safe lot and next to a 997 carerra turbo S drop top.

reason behind not wanting them... at some point if you are not careful u will lose the key... like someone changes a tire/ plugs a tire for u etc; and never gives u the key back ..

at my boys shop more cars come in with wheel locks and the key missing adn the owner has no idea what were talking about... after searchign thru the car and not finding it.. we have to get the lock off and replace it for them with a 5th/6th + reg lug

A wise man once said, "You don't lock your doors to keep bad people out, if they want to break in, door locks won't stop them. You lock your doors to keep good people from doing something bad."

Not an issue here. The JDM guys are more into protecting their aftermarket rims.

Dug this up for a serious question. Maybe some of you veterans can answer, me being a rookie to BMW.

The wheel locks thrown on by the dealer @ pickup for me, are they a one size fits all lug with then same pattern for all vehicles that get them OEM?? Or does each lug have a slightly differing pattern??

I ask because, I live in NYC and am a little paranoid about work. Can anyone with a set of OEM bmw wheel locks that knows even a shread about cars set me up for a BAD morning/leaving work to go home and getting PISSED like below?? Or is each set unique to the vehicle equipped??

There are about 30 differnt key wheel lock combinations, Dealers have a master set an can let you know what number your is so you can order one. I had to do this when i bought my car as the key was missing.

I replaced the dealer supplied locks with a set of McGuard locks. I have the originals supplied by the dealer and willing to sell them cheap.

No I don't think so, I'm pretty sure it's an additional option.
