Noise with certain steering angle at low speed

Hi all,

When I turn the wheel in my 2008 M3 a significant amount at low speeds, I hear a prominent "whub whub" sound. Anyone else notice this? A problem? Thanks in advance.

I hear it with my new 2011. But mine sounds more like tek tek tek. I posted a thread and most people said it used to be the brake covers in 2008s but BMW changed them. I'm still not sure what mine is. Look up my thread to see what others said. The title was clunking while cornering?? Here is the link:

Mine makes no such sounds - has the black disk covers.

I own a 2008 and experienced 3different types of low speed sounds.

1) the clanking sound at low speeds. This could have been the brake cover issue but it went away on it's own.

2) turning at low speeds made a whining sound from the back. This was coming from the LSD. The dealer changed the differential fluid and it was fully gone.

3) Loud whining noise from the steering column at low speeds and certain steering angles. This was due to the power steering fluid being low. The dealer topped it off and it's completely gone now.

Hope this helps

Yes, i heard it yesterday. Thought i was going mad, trying to work out if it was a new sound!

Must be either the brake cover or low power steering fluid as mine is definitely coming from the front of the car.

Amen to that...

I had the same issue and the dealer replaced the LSD fluid with the updated one, which has teflon that helps eliminate that sound and its completly gone

I had the same problem when on full steering lock on my old 335i - steering fluid was low due to a leak.
