We have been following this problem for a while now and finally decided to tackle it. We should have the first round of gears ready to go in about one month. The inserts were being cut yesterday. I have them listed on the site but not for sale yet. I hope this helps a bunch for folks so they can save a mess of money. Email me if you are interested. We would be selling them as a set of four gears. Two half and two whole gears per set.

We are using plastic injection to make these parts. They will be made of a high temp material with carbon fiber fill. These are NOT 3D printed or made overseas. I make all my own product in house in my Virginia shop. These will be backed up with a warranty and 24/7 help on the phone. We don't put a band aid on anything, we make parts to fix things permanently.

I can make a donation back to the site and also give an initial discount to members of this forum on the first group buy. Would this work for everyone? Please let me know.

Thanks,

Jeff Caplan

Great to hear you are going through with it. Always good to have more options, especially on a part that appears to fail fairly frequently in this car. Did you have an estimated price? I only ask because it appears sometimes the failure is related to the gears and others it is an electronic issue. So you are sort of taking a gamble attempting to repair an existing actuator.

Would you recommend clearing adaptations? Or just any error codes?

Very good news indeed~

Can you educate us and elaborate why OE gears are prone to wear out? Also, you'll need to be a vendor before you get banned by the admin.

If the car has adapted in response to malfunctioning throttle actuators, I would reset adaption. Common sense. The car would likely eventually adapt back, but that can take a while. I would do it if you can reasonably easily do so (i.e., find a friend with a scan tool that has that function).

My 08M3 has 66k miles. Just got the DSC malfunction for the first time. Went off on restart of the car. Showed up as P159F on a cheap scan tool. Have read that DSC malfunction is often the intermittent code that results.

W///, awesome thread. And thanks to those who have added to it. I'm ordering an actuator today to fix the on and off limp mode/error code problems I've been having for a month now.

One question.... how do I know which bank is bad? I see everyone pasting codes with bank 1, bank 2 etc... I used BMWhat yesterday and got 002B22 (Predriver check throttle valve actuator). At first I thought "Driver" meant driver side, until I saw codes on this thread stating which bank. Just now, the car is throwing no codes/running fine so I can't scan the codes at the moment...

Edit: limp mode and same codes returned.. still getting 2B22 predriver check and the 2B57 check at lower top (limp mode). Nothing about Bank1/bank2

Even if I don't have to be a sponsor, I want to. I didn't have anything in my inventory for E60/E90's before. Now I will before the end of the month. I have a few volunteers for the first run to make sure everything will go well, then I'll release them to everyone. I always want to check new parts before I send them out in quantities. They should be ready before the end of July.

For those that don't know who we are, we have been a sponsor of BMW CCA O'Fest for over 10 years now. I am an E12 owner who got into BMW's 16 years ago because I wanted to fix my own car but no one would sell me the part I needed. I decided to start making parts via plastic injection. Now we have over 80 different parts for all cars and distribute worldwide. On the retail side, Pelican Parts and Bavarian Auto sell our stuff just to name two that you folks would buy from.

I'll contact the admin and see what it takes to be a vendor/sponsor of the site.

Thanks everyone. Enjoy the 4th.

Fault: Throttle valve actuator CAN message
Code: CDBF
Fault: check at lower top
Code: 2B57
Fault: CAN bus off throttle
Code: CD93

Carly fault codes. Not showing a particular bank now vs. Before it was giving me a bank 2 error? Any thoughts?

I think one of mine is going. I got a 27A2 and a 2B57. The first is the throttle position sensor and the second is the reduced power safety mode. This is the 2nd time I have had the DSC error message on the idrive.

Just starting to get signs of faulty actuator (Christmas tree), but seems to be alright after 1, or 2 restarts. Question: Will it affect anything if I continue to run my M until I receive a permanent limp mode? MPact East is next Saturday, and I really wanted to drive my M, and not my 335. Just don't want to damage anything.

I plan to keep driving mine. Limp mode is no fun so when I am stuck in that regularly I'll have to do something.

Should be OK I would think. Mine came on and would not go away so I was kind of screwed. As pbonsalb said, driving an S65 on limp mode is pretty sad. Car is slower than most minivans in that condition.

I'm in the same boat. No bank 1 or 2 with updated Carly app... I guess we can figure it out once plenum is removed OR simply replace both actuators.

Got an engine/dsc malfunction this morning as well as reduced power. I've been reading up all day and sounds like throttle actuators are the usual suspects, but the night before I was getting harsh and unfamiliar sounds when the dct rev matching kicked in...not so much on "soft" rev matches" but going from 3rd to 2nd and rev matching at about 4000rpm I was getting a nasty sound. It's hard to describe and I can't take a clip because now it's in limp mode has anyone else gotten this before throwing a code? Also my work schedule makes it really difficult to get it diagnosed does anyone have a link to get a code reader quickly? I'd prefer to get the parts on hand before Saturday so I can install

If it's in limp mode, stop the car and turn off the engine. Push ignition button twice until the exclamation marks comes up on the dash.

Now get someone to push the throttle while looking at the sides of the throttle bodies. You will need a torch for the drivers side (LHD car). One side won't be working. That's the side that needs a new actuator.

Thank you for the tip of course after getting home from work it's no longer in limp mode so I guess I'll have to wait since it seems inevitable. One thing tho what do you mean that ill need a torch?
