Thats a good comparison. Its also the comparison that makes me nervous. The engine will be fine, it will probably make between 425 ad 450hp.

Its the suspension that I worry about. The E46 was a downgrade from the E36 in terms of handling. I hope they learned their lesson based on all the complaints they got, time will tell.

He also told me that the final product will have a lot more luxury options then in past M3s.Also Carbon Fiber roof will be available 2 yrs from 2008 launch only on CSL model and that model probably will not come to US.And no HUD will be available.
I am # 1 at the dealer and i allready told the manager that if the final price goes over $85,000 ( the way i want it) that i will get in line for 2010 R10 intsead. To which he replied by that even with all options it would come close to $85,000.
If the car "nicely equipped" is at $75k, then it better have 440 hp not 426. Even then, I would go to a 997S for not much more $$. I cannot see spending $75k or more for a 3 series unless its a CSL.

Great. Just what a performance car needs!

Hopefully 'options' will be the key word here.

I don't believe that the dealers know w.t.f. they are talking about. As much as I would love that much power, I really doubt it. If the price is that high, I will be buying the 997S as well. Even $75k for a 3 series is crazy.

For a car that is supposedly coming equipped with a lot of luxury itmes, an addtional $16,000 dollars over the rumored $58,999 base price, is a lot. I would think it should be called "all optioned", rather than "well optioned".

True. But the price of the M5 is probably going to go up, especially with the 550hp engine. As a result, you will most likely end up with the typical $20 -25,000 spread between the M3 and M5. Even so, a price in the $70's for the M3 will make me think twice; I may look elsewhere, or expand my car shopping to include other hot cars in the $70 -80,000 range or higher. ... Oh,
what the hell!!

How close were you?

I thought it would be interesting to look at the poll results now that we know the actual spec of 414 hp.

Looks like most were thinking the power would be higher.

swamp2, you should have snap shotted the the poll results the day the engine specs were released. That way you could post the results in the openning post so we all know who the people are that voted after the specs weree already here

Not too late to do it still...

(Either that or change the expiration date, but i dont think it lets you)

Depends on whether we are talking US specs or international specs. I guess that should have been specified in advance.
