Iphone 4 wouldn't fit in the current adapter right now and most likely you would need a new one for it. Haven't heard of BMW releasing a new version for it but sooner or later they will.

Any idea how long does this normally take for BMW. I am getting my car re-delivered and trying to see if I should get the snap in adapter now if it is just a couple of weeks.

Thanks for your reply.

No doubt by the time BMW comes out with the adapter, the next version of the iPhone will be out.

BMW say its coming ... no release date yet though. I'm sure the design will change a fair bit given the new iPhone 4's antenna placement. Given the cradle use a inductive coupling connection to the iPhone antenna, it would require a good deal of redesign.

I think that it's unlikely that BMW will do a lot to take advantage of the iPhone 4's antenna placement. They are probably just going to make a cradle that fits. Some people say that they don't even reception improvement with the iPhones in the cradles. Also, based on the history of the iPhone integration with the USB and 6FL adapter and then having to have a whole separate Eject box and Adapter, I don't think that BMW tries nearly hard enough on the iPhone integration.

All that being said, I hope that get this iPhone 4 snap-in adapter ASAP. My iPhone 3G adapter is useless to me now...

They're not going to worry about the antenna. The current adapter doesn't connect the phone antenna to the roof antenna either. Apple did not put an antenna connector in the dock connector to connect to so any benefits of putting your phone in the snap-in adapter are purely inductive.

In the current cradle their built a pretty sophisticated inductive coupling connection. Open it up and look for yourself. I wouldn't write off the cradles just yet.

I tried to buy a 3gs cradle. It wasn't in the system for them to order. Any ideas? Anyone want to sell an old one?

I have an iPhone 3GS cradle that I'm no longer using. I'll sell it for $80/shipped. PM me if you're interested. I can ship it out as early as tomorrow afternoon.

iPhone 4 cradle is coming

On the German forums I have just read in two places that a cradle for iPhone 4 will arrive late 2010. Both appear to be direct from BMW Welt visitors.

I am pretty dissappointed overall at the execution of the iPhone integration, from inception it looked good.. then there was the "not made for iphone" alert on the 3G, then the 3GS, now the iPhone 4 charges with the Y-cable but there is no cradle???? Really. Everything works so well together EXCEPT the physical connection. strange.

Geez what did it all cost in the end to get my iphones to work with the car? $2000?? Anyway it is still the best integration you can get.

By Apple's usual time table, we shouldn't see a iPhone5 until June or July.

Though there have been enough complaints about the Proximity Sensor and some other issues, they could release it early... But, that wouldn't be Apple's style and would infuriate customers.
