$1700 for 4 tire replacement??

I know Michelin PS2s are expensive tires but my dealer wants $1700 for new rubber, without any alignment! Is this normal? Dealership is Bert Smith in St Petersburg Florida.

tirerack has the ps2 for 1500+ without shipping. so $1700 with mount and balance is about right.

Go with the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas for just more than half of that. I'd put them up against PS2s for most use. Dealer would not be my first choice for tires.

There are many less expensive brands out there with tires that out-perform the PS2.

i.e. Advan AD08, Bridgestone RE-11, etc.

that price isnt bad actually usually dealers would usually rape you on the price of replacement tires.

there are many tires out there that can 'outperform' PS2s but PS2s are a good all around tire. they're pretty good for spirited driving although not as sticky as Nitto NT05, Bridgestone RE11, AD08, etc but then they're quiet when cruising on the highway and theyre much better than nt05,re11 and AD08 under wet conditions.

nothing wrong with going back to the oem tires. lots of porsches use PS2s as well.

they are expensive, but they are worth it
can't speak for the sessanta's
i heard a lot of good things about them

But do the Neova AD08 come in the proper sizes for the stock 18 inch wheels for my E90?

+1,

I paid ~$750 for 4x 275/18/r35 and an extra $90 for mount/balance on my track/autox set at a local San Diego mod shop. (In fact I reshoed my OEM set in Vreds 275/245 as well), so about $1700 for 2 full sets.
They've lasted real well, the track set got about 6 track days and 12 autox on them so far and they are still good for another few autox. My OEM set are like new almost one year later.

Have you actually compared the AD08s to the PS2s in rain?

if you don't mind going one size up, I have two practically brand new 255/35/19 and one 285/30/19 PS2 that I can sell you at a solid discount... You would need to purchase the fourth tire, though.

I have. The AD08s are pretty good in the rain as long as there isn't a lot of standing water. If the temps fall below 50 degrees and it's raining then the AD08s become really scary. I was driving through a downpour in low 40 degree temps and I was seriously concerned that I was going to crash - the car felt so slippery and it was hydroplaning excessively. I was being passed by minivans driven by little old ladies.

Well that certainly can be a deal breaker in the cold rainy Northeast. I love the PS2s in the rain, but would really like a stickier tire with stiffer sidewalls and better turn-in. On the other hand, it sound like the AD08s are really unusable for spirited driving on narrow parkways with lots of water. Thanks.
