please help! Euro to US

hi,

right i know this might be a stupid question but i need to ask it...

i have an E90LCI and live in the UK. Now, in the US the indicators are used as sidelights... is this possible to do with the euro version? i have been told that you can do this be going through the hidden menu in the Idrive???

please can someone tell me how to do this, maybe even a step-by-step haha?

Note: would the indicators still work after this?

i know this might all sound stupid but i have not got a clue about it

There must be a way, as that's not a US car, I just don't know it. I know they have to code it out, so can assumably be coded back in.

Wouldn't be legal and would fail MOT.

hmmm interesting, but im sure doing that, the car would 'kick off' many warning lights, annoying gongs, all the time?

he got a warning on the Dash, it was just the warning for a light, the E46 dash cluster was different to the E90, and with it being more advanced it might throw up warnings all the time, but might be worth a try ?

Haha just remembered, I have angel eyes
Edit: a few forums saying that it can be done without a cable, directly through hidden menus :/ but no instructions how to do it

You have to code it. Set SIDEMARKER_US to active in the frm.

I don't think so. Read the stickies in the coding section.

^ This. It will make your ambers in the headlights on whenever the parking lights or headlights are on. It's funny that you want this enabled, because everyone who asks me for coding always wants it disabled.

You can't do it by hidden menu, no way. Only cable and custom coding by NCSexpert.

Lights, emissions and brakes have to be correct for US inspections, US inspections are strict, but no where near as detailed/difficult as MOT! Click-> to go to the coding, you will have better luck getting your answer.

I believe that this is possible. At least, I was able to 'do it the other way around'. I was able to turn off my amber parking lights and have the angel eyes only as parking lights (after importing my US car to Europe). It was not possible in the (hidden) menu; it had to be done by coding/programming. Note that I have a 2007 328i. Not sure about yours. Anyway, I'm not sure if amber parking lights are even mandatory nowadays in the US. There is quite some talks about this topic on this forum, but use the right search terms: "amber", "parking lights", "code" etc.

I'd be more worried about bringing a 4-cylinder diesel car to the US. I believe that BMW would be happy to service your car (and an Indy would for sure), but you might want to bring the usual stuff (air filter, diesel fuel filter, belt, oil filter, etc.) with you so that you already have these spare parts with you.

You will not be able to import that car to the US due to it being a diesel. It will not meet the US emissions. Cheaper to buy a new car here.
