The rears on my M3 need replaced..(bubbled bad on one and close to the wear markers)
The OEM Michellins are an arm and a leg, plus I'd like to upsize to a 285.

So, I've been eyeballing the Bridgestone RE-11's and they're about a hundred bucks cheaper per tire (180 cheaper in the 285 size). I know it's not recommended to mix brands, but is this real bad to do?

its not necessarily bad to mix brands. you may not get the same desired or even performance but as long as its the same consecutive pair ie. never mix 1 bridgestone (brand) rear and 1 michelin (another brand) rear tire. this will cause uneven wear and performance. just make sure your rear tires are the same brand for even wear.

i went though the same process at the beginning of the summer. my front oem ps2 had enough rubber left to last the summer but the rears had barely any thread left. I opted to change all four and went with the re-11's 245 and 265 19's.

they are by far the best tires I ever bought. they come with a thread depth of 9/32 and after a month of driving and a track day at a very technical track they are at 8/32. they are very sticky plus they don't wear out too fast

go with the re-11's you won't regret it even if it means a few extra bucks to replace the fronts.

also, they have so much more grip that you might get a lot more understeer.

The Sessanta's are about $700 - $800 for a set of 4. Many people have them now. The feedback is very positive.

Like mentioned above, it's not necessarily bad to mix and match tires like that, it just looks a bit off to be honest. Regardless I'm sure you can find some great tires that cost relatively less expensive than the PS2's for a full set instead of just the rears.

i am running Nitto NT05 tires in the rear and PS2s in the front. i was going to get PS2s all around but it was out of stock when i wanted it so i settled for Nittos... i dont seem to be having any negative effects... the rear tires are probably a little stickier than the PS2s so i get more grip on corner exit so i can give the car more gas earlier.

i am running the Hancook Ventus V12 all the way around. got them for a great price at tirerack. i was gonna get the PS2 again till i read the reviews of the Hancook. not only is it alot cheaper then the PS2 but i think it performs excellent. you could get a matching set of 4. check them out on tirerack

just looked at the RE-11, good reviews and not bad price. i think i might try that one next time as it looks to be a step up in traction vs the Hancook. check them out, either way they both got as good of scores as the PS2

Thanks for the heads up. I read the thread on them and went this route getting all four. Ordered today..

Unfortunately the place I ordered from had the Sessanta's on back order until mid-July. For about the same price though I got the Nitto NT05's all around.

The only matter of concern, I think, is that the Bridgestones will grip better than the Michelins. I personally hate an understeering car, so I would not mix those tires on my own car.
