Sad to see it go. Can't wait to see the F10 though!

Performance Winter or Studless Ice and Snow?

I'm about to buy winter tires but I'm not sure whether I need Performance Winter tires (i.e. Dunlop Winter Sport 3D) or Studless Ice and Snow tires (i.e. Blizzak WS70). I plan on driving in the city in Calgary mostly on weekends but will also be going up to the mountains to Lake Louise and Sunshine every week or two for skiing. I'm sure the Performance is fine for the city but my concern is that they will not be sufficient for the snow days in the mountains. Since I'm from New Orleans, I've never driven on snow before and would appreciate any guidance.

Speaking from personal experience the Dunlop 3Ds will be perfect for you in lcal Calgary travel. As we have chinooks here during winter, for the most part we have very little snow on our roads due to that climate change.

As for roads trips up to the mountains I found if you travel up there during or right after a snow fall it may be tricky to navigate regardless of which winter tires you choose, but the other half of the time performance winters like the 3D's would be ok.

Hey Calgarians, I'm wondering what is a good winter tire to purchase for the M3. I just bought the 2008-2009 OEM 18" Rims from a member. As well as, where is a good place to get the tires installed and balanced

Thanks,
Sandy

I buy winters at tire rack and get them dealer installed

Most tire shops are clowns and will wreck your rims with loose drive sockets and over torque the lug nuts

Get the sport blizzaks and you'll never look back

All other winter tires come second

Thanks, when you say "them dealers", do you mean the BMW dealer?

I bought an F-150 (couldn't resist great pricing these days) and want to sell my M3 winter wheels/tires:

235/40/18 all around with Blizzak WS 60s. These provide EXCELLENT traction on snow and ice. There are tires that are sportier to drive, but for snow/ice traction, I think these are outstanding. If the M3 is your only winter ride, these are what you'd probably want. They are on A7 Sport Edition wheels. I bought them from Tire Rack last year and they are virtually brand new. $1000 firm. I can install them for you in < 40 minutes if you like.

Send PM if interested.

I too love my Blizzaks. Tried Dunlops and just like the Blizzaks in snow and ice much better. Winter isn't for aggressive driving.

Pit Stop Tire in Calgary is really good. Just off of Blackfoot.

Yeah get Calg Bmw to put them on. They have the the right tools, balancing equip and they know what they are doing.

Tire shops just screw your rims and then overtorque the bolts

Anyone in Calgary running aftermarket brakes (pads and rotors)?? The amount I'm tracking it I'm eating through my stock ones. Went to aftermarket pads and they are a little too hard on rotors so needing to upgrade those now.

Hey is there anyone in Calgary running only a supersprint muffler on their E46 M3?

If you have more than just the muffler that could still work.

I would be interested in hearing it in person as their is a group buy going on right now, and I just want to hear it in person just to make sure.

Thanks,

Ran P friction this year, running Pagid next season. On my 2nd set of stock rotors. But will need a 3rd next spring

Anyone know a place where I can get tint applied to my car that isn't over priced? I got a quote for $168 for the higher end tinting material? What should I look for when I go to get tint done? And what's the normal tint percentage? I don't want a dumb limo tint, but I would like some, it keeps the cabin a bit cooler, and there is more privacy. Thanks

Shadow Tint on Macleod Trail are very good. A good installer will be able to guide you through the various tint options and find one that suits your car/style.

Anyone else seen a Frozen Grey M6 and M3 in Calgary? I've seen both a couple of times now, it would be great if they were owned by the same person.

Anyone in Calgary interested in a Meisterschaft GT exhaust? I'm trying to sell mine and I have a special offer available for locals.
