Rod Bearings are done.
Okay here's my issue. After reading several treads and starting to feel my engine getting rough. I started to really look into the rod bearing issues. So I decided to get my rod bearings done over at Alekshop. Got to say the guys there are really helpful and very knowledgeable. I opt using for WPC treated bearings and the rest all OEM. My engine was already making a ticking sound. Also my copper count on my Blackstone oil readout was high. Here's a look at the bearings. My engine feels smoother throughout the high RPM range and a ticking sound is gone. It also runs 20 cooler. I got to say this is a true issue for the S65. I have 80K miles. I do daily drive my car and track it 5 to 6 times a year. I don't think this issue is related to track or not, just daily driving affects this engine. Feel free to ask any questions and I hope this helps out the form.

Yikes. What copper PPM did you see?
I just passed 80k myself, but got pretty good reading thankfully.

Was the prior ticking noise very rhythmic or kind of random sounding and did it increase when slowly adding throttle?
What oil did you run prior and are you still running the same after getting the bearings swapped?

For a car with 80K on it the bearings look bad,but not too bad ! Actualy saw worse with less on it !
But need to say if you heard the ticking sound and you are planning to keep the car ,the WPC's are the right choise ! Hope that your car is ready now for another 80K Also whats makes me think more and more....still need to see the first Euro/bearing failure ! Thanks for sharing

I have a couple of questions.
Did they just remove and replace, or did they do any measuring on the crank rod journals? Is there only one size of bearing that is available? Do you know any torque specs on the rods? Thanks. |

I always use TWS 10w60. But the last 10k I used motul v300 10w40 with a bottle of redline zinc additive.

That is a huge change in oil temperature. I wonder why this would affect it so much?

Bad rod bearings cause excess heat/oil temps.
