Intermittent results with Ipod Cable w/iDrive e90 M3

Ok I got a Ipod Y Cable that has the P/N 0 440 796, My iPhone works with it BUT it says this cable is not made for an Ipod, and then prompts me to turn airport mode on. Whether I select on or off it still likes to cut out, I open the armrest and Viola! its asking me to turn on airport mode again. To try to fix this problem I am trying a friends iPod 8GB, it worked on the 10 minute drive home, and the 10 minute drive back to work, and THEN it started cutting out also.
Each of these issues I can unplug and replug the iPod to restore, but it is really annoying because I have to do this every 2-5 minutes or so.

Does anyone have a good solution to this problem? I personally think it is the cable. I wish I had someone in the area to help out with this, but I don't

It sounds more like you have a bad cable/connector.
