Some new info on E92 M3 incl. M Dynamics

This is information which I have read on another forum. There may be legal problems because a fax was sent out by mistake to several dealers in the UK, so I won't divulge which forum, but some of you may be familiar with it.

1) The schedule posted by Scott26 is pretty much spot on.

2) Prices confirmed at £48,954 for the SMG model and £47,250 for the manual (base prices). The final inclusive spec (for the UK at least) is to be confirmed, but the latest document includes;

SatNav
Bolster seats
PDC
Flappy Mirrors

the most interesting feature.....a new M gizmo system called M Dynamics, a new combined Suspension, Traction and Braking system.

3) The "flappy" folding mirrors will have a two post attachment like the E36 but BMW know about criminals stealing the mirrors, so this time there will be a secret anti-theft device.

4) The fax that was sent to dealers shouldn't have been sent until May/June.

Interesting info, though a bit disappointing regarding the release schedule.

Thanks for the update.

OMG, that's great info!!
what a leak...
The fact that a manual transmission is offered made my day!!
But I don't fully understand the M dynamic feature; I thought that's the same system as in the M5 where power, damper and DSC settings are configured. But the incorporation of the braking system is new to me.

Do you have any further information on the "M dynamics"?

Best regards, south

I have posted all that I know. The source of my info does know more about the M dynamics system, but at the moment is keeping quiet in case there are legal problems.

Hm...so manual model is about $92659.14 but cars in the US are usually cheaper than any other country so...?
Quick question, how much is E46 M3 manual in GB?

Hm...very interesting about M gizmo system :O

M Dynamics sounds like enhanced throttle mapping integrated with DSC, EDC (suspension) and ABS. Doesn't the M5 already have basically the same functionality? Not sure why this will be trumpeted as some exciting new development -- unless there is more to it. More likely, the idea is that no car in the same segment has this combination of features (although I'm not sure that is true).

I called this as a possbility back in the middle of Nov. based on the latest spy pics at the time. I do drive an E36 and love the mirrors. Really hope this is true. You can spot these so far away and are so distinctive.

Mutiply the UK price in £ by about 1.3 to get US dollars. This works just right for RS4 and M5. M5 is £63.5k/$82.5k USD. This would mean close to $64k base price. Man I hope not. I would still probably be "in" myself, but this is really going to shut down a lot of potential buyers. I am still betting less than $60k base USD. I guess if the car owns the 911S (NOT the "mid level" 911 as SCOTT26) and Aston Vantage it would be worth it but still....$64k ugh.

Ah...I multiplied by 1.9 something...
US MSRP of E46 M3 base model (manual) was $48,xxx.
That's a huge jump!
Despite the fact that this "1.3" conversion factor works just right for RS4 and M5, I doubt that's going to happen. (At least I hope not because loaded new M3 with $64k base price will be end up around high $70k or even $80k)
I got this $16k difference from "build your own" of my E46 M3, which I never got to buy it.

Am I missing something or what...?

You used a currency conversion which between GBP and USD is 1.96 (today). The point is that you can not multiply the price of cars by the appropriate currency conversion to get the price in another country. Local proces, adjusted for currency are different and taxes also play a major role. Each division of a car company decides or has input to head quarters about pricing. The 1.3 number is not magic, not fixed, just something that has worked accurately in the past. Again I strongly suspect either the UK pricing in this leak was wrong or <$60k base US price.

FlexRay

Good introduction here. I can only hope for reliability, transparency, performance and weight reduction if the new M3 really does have FlexRay.

Very informative. I hope that if brake-by-wire is a part of the package, M does a better job of tuning it than MB did with its brake-by-wire system. My understanding is that MB abandoned its brake-by-wire system after a couple of model years (on the E class among others) because of poor modulation performance.

Good info but a fax that got sent 5-6 months early???? Makes no sense! Who would write a memo and be like, "well, now that I got this memo done I will just hold onto it for 5 months until I can send it"

If the price includes these options, I wouldn't be suprised if it "bases" at $64K like swamp2 said. If BMW offers a stripped version, it could still eek in under $60K.

I hope it performs like a $70K car. I'd rather not feel like I'm driving a $70K 3 series. I expect to be wowed, and impressed with unique and new technology. And speed, lots of it. Otherwise, there are other choices.

I am beginning to think that $80K will be the "loaded", all-taxes-included, out-the-door price for this machine.

With the economy doing so well and anticipated high demand, BMW will be nuts not to take our money.

Meanwhile we can continue dreaming of spending $60K.

The real question

Isn't the real question what type of car can a person in a certain job or type of employment commonly afford, given the adjustments for cost living and income? Well I suppose we still may have the least expensive cars around....

The timeline about FlexRay was:

10/30: Article with silver mule and blurb/diagram on FlexRay
11/1: You posted about "adjustable dampers" and in a reply to that post another fellow mentioned FlexRay. Later on in this same thread you post about FlexRay as well
11/9 You posted about those bogus "wedge brakes" and FlexRay at the same time

Sorry pay up!

Calculation for the price of the Upcoming M3 coupe base model.

After taking the integral of Omega the answer is 64K for the base model. The probability of the answer is rated at 95% confidence level.

Thank you for your time.

Well here some information reported in leftlanenews.com.

Lexus will price the 2008 IS-F sports car somewhere around $50,000, according to Lexus insiders contacted by Edmunds. A price in this range would make the IS-F only slightly more expensive than the soon-to-be-replaced $48,900 BMW M3.

Lexus might be attempt to undercut the next-generation M3, which rumors have suggested will be considerably more expensive. However, a report in August suggested BMW was eyeing a $53,975 price tag for the next M3, which is a small premium over the old model than originally anticipated.
