Some new info on E92 M3 incl. M Dynamics
This is information which I have read on another forum. There may be legal problems because a fax was sent out by mistake to several dealers in the UK, so I won't divulge which forum, but some of you may be familiar with it.
1) The schedule posted by Scott26 is pretty much spot on. 2) Prices confirmed at £48,954 for the SMG model and £47,250 for the manual (base prices). The final inclusive spec (for the UK at least) is to be confirmed, but the latest document includes; SatNav Bolster seats PDC Flappy Mirrors the most interesting feature.....a new M gizmo system called M Dynamics, a new combined Suspension, Traction and Braking system. 3) The "flappy" folding mirrors will have a two post attachment like the E36 but BMW know about criminals stealing the mirrors, so this time there will be a secret anti-theft device. 4) The fax that was sent to dealers shouldn't have been sent until May/June. |

what a leak... The fact that a manual transmission is offered made my day!! But I don't fully understand the M dynamic feature; I thought that's the same system as in the M5 where power, damper and DSC settings are configured. But the incorporation of the braking system is new to me. Do you have any further information on the "M dynamics"? Best regards, south |

M Dynamics sounds like enhanced throttle mapping integrated with DSC, EDC (suspension) and ABS. Doesn't the M5 already have basically the same functionality? Not sure why this will be trumpeted as some exciting new development -- unless there is more to it. More likely, the idea is that no car in the same segment has this combination of features (although I'm not sure that is true).

Pricing
Mutiply the UK price in £ by about 1.3 to get US dollars. This works just right for RS4 and M5. M5 is £63.5k/$82.5k USD. This would mean close to $64k base price. Man I hope not. I would still probably be "in" myself, but this is really going to shut down a lot of potential buyers. I am still betting less than $60k base USD. I guess if the car owns the 911S (NOT the "mid level" 911 as SCOTT26) and Aston Vantage it would be worth it but still....$64k ugh.

US MSRP of E46 M3 base model (manual) was $48,xxx. That's a huge jump! Despite the fact that this "1.3" conversion factor works just right for RS4 and M5, I doubt that's going to happen. (At least I hope not because loaded new M3 with $64k base price will be end up around high $70k or even $80k) I got this $16k difference from "build your own" of my E46 M3, which I never got to buy it. Am I missing something or what...? |

FlexRay
Good introduction here. I can only hope for reliability, transparency, performance and weight reduction if the new M3 really does have FlexRay.

Good info but a fax that got sent 5-6 months early???? Makes no sense! Who would write a memo and be like, "well, now that I got this memo done I will just hold onto it for 5 months until I can send it"

I hope it performs like a $70K car. I'd rather not feel like I'm driving a $70K 3 series. I expect to be wowed, and impressed with unique and new technology. And speed, lots of it. Otherwise, there are other choices. |

I am beginning to think that $80K will be the "loaded", all-taxes-included, out-the-door price for this machine. With the economy doing so well and anticipated high demand, BMW will be nuts not to take our money. Meanwhile we can continue dreaming of spending $60K. |

The real question
Isn't the real question what type of car can a person in a certain job or type of employment commonly afford, given the adjustments for cost living and income? Well I suppose we still may have the least expensive cars around....

Calculation for the price of the Upcoming M3 coupe base model.
After taking the integral of Omega the answer is 64K for the base model. The probability of the answer is rated at 95% confidence level. Thank you for your time. |

Well here some information reported in leftlanenews.com.
Lexus will price the 2008 IS-F sports car somewhere around $50,000, according to Lexus insiders contacted by Edmunds. A price in this range would make the IS-F only slightly more expensive than the soon-to-be-replaced $48,900 BMW M3. Lexus might be attempt to undercut the next-generation M3, which rumors have suggested will be considerably more expensive. However, a report in August suggested BMW was eyeing a $53,975 price tag for the next M3, which is a small premium over the old model than originally anticipated. |
