How Long Before Buying at 0-4% over invoice

Hey guys, the e92 M3 market is definitely soft. The dealer around my area called me 3 times within the last 3 days to get me to come down and look at their m3's. They marked up the car, but I don't think anyone is buying. The economy is in the toilet, and 70k for a cookie cutter coupe is already a tough enough sale. I definitely have patience especially since I want the DCT transmission, do you think that by mid august early September I could possibly pick one up for invoice or max 1k over.

unlikly that will happen in Cal (at invoice). maybe MSRP or a $1000 under invoice if the economy really tanks.

you realize as soon as they release DCT there will be a rush to order it.

If you really consider it a "cookie cutter coupe" are you sure it's even the car for you? Just sayin'...

People said the same thing about the M5, look at it now. Plus remember the M5/6 are fairly exclusive, BMW plans to sell 100 thousand of these bad boys, and with this economy I don't see that happening for a 70k car.

Ohh it is definitely a cookie cutter coupe. The dealer even called it a cookie cutter coupe when I went in to see it lol. By cookie cutter I mean that it is not a rare or limited production car like a porsche GT3 or aston martin vantage (porsche 911 is another example of a cookie cutter coupe, hence being offered for up to 10k off msrp). The m3 is a bread and butter car for BMW's performance division with 100k of them being made. The M5 had much lower production numbers than the M3 and those can easily be picked for close to invoice.

I love the new m3 and will probably pick one up when I can get a good deal on it. Hopefully, no later than November.

The coupes are hot and will be hot. I am sure some dealer will give one away but its very rare. We had a 06 coupe Imola red Competition package sitting for months, then all of a sudden someone comes in and paid all the money for it and was happier than ever. A good deal is a fair deal, we dont have to make all the money, just some, 1500-2000 over invoice is more then fair, for those looking for 100-500 over, good luck!

thanks a lot for the informative post. Yeah I think 500-1500 over invoice is definitely fair, and will be happy to pay that much. The car market is definitely soft, which hurts me because I first need to sell my e46 m3 to be able to jump into the e92. If I can't get one for close to invoice then it looks like I'll just pick one up slightly used (<5k) miles. Depreciation is a bitch lol.

Its funny because 12 months ago I was #1 on the allocation list at my dealer. My CA promised me MSRP, which at the time I would have been happy to pay. Well 12 months later I call him and he informs me their charging 25k over, says "We got a guy willing to pay 50k for the first one". 3 weeks go by and their calling me everyday.

WOW, mark up is ridiculous, total GREED! The sick part is the Salesperson does not usually get a cut of that mark up, the commision is usually capped at these type of dealers. If I worked at one I would never even try to get that stupid mark up if I was not getting paid on it.
