hard water stain

Does anybody know how to remove hard water stain?

I tried clay bar detailing the car. Then used Meguiars M105 Mirror Glaze Ultra-Cut Compound with DA polisher and orange pad and it also didn't remove these spots.

I know these passed the clear coat and not sure what to try now. I feel I tried all solution possible to remove these spots but nothing helped so far.

hard water

Warm up a towel with water and vinegar in the micro wave. Try in a conspicuous area first that should do it. I live in Texas and that is what I use to remove hard water stains. Let it soak for a minute or two and them rub gently.

Thanks for feedback. Problem is hard water stain has been there from previous owner (i.e it was on the car at least for 5 years). I tried spraying hot water mixed with vinegar and rubbing it but I had no good result whatsoever

If it's through the clearcoat, you're toast.

Go to chemical guys website and watch their video on water spots. If it is through your clear coat you can try to cover it if it's not deep. If it's not through the coat I think they make a product for it.

I've been impressed with this product, but the water spots were only a few weeks old. The spots did not come off with claying nor with a quick wax, but this stuff just removed them with no effort.

Wet sanding with 2000 paper will remove them quite easily. You don't need apply much pressure. Follow up with the M105 and it will be as new.

Good luck.

Professional detailers told me that wet sanding would be the next step. I want to stay away from wet sanding because if I have to wet sand, I will have to do the whole car as hard water stain is all over the car and I want to avoid doing that at any cost.

Looks like the only solution is to live with it. Thank god I have space gray so it is not visible but I have OCD of keeping everything perfect

Wet sanding for the deep water spots, and even then really old ones may not come out. My old M5 had them on the trunk. Wet sand and polish fixed it right up.

Maybe do the most obvious panels like hood, roof and front bumper.

do paint correction and apply coating for protection if needed... I have jet black and it was swirl mania from the previous owner, now removed and I'm very careful with every wipe.

If you decide to wet sand which is just about your only choice, I would start with 3000 and if that doesnt get it move to 2500. I would not start with 2000.
Also, if you wet sand you really need to use a rotary buffer. A DA takes way too much time and effort but you wont burn the paint like you can with the rotary.
I use both but for any wet sanding it's always buffed with a rotary.

+1 Really the only option if it is deep into the clear coat and yes you have to use a rotary as a DA will take forever.

Have you tried a yellow pad with M105? Yellow pad will cut more than orange.
