New ultra lightweight wheel from Alloy Technic

Dear M3 Post members,

Alloy Technic has released a new design called MESH in 20", specific to the E9X M3 and we wanted to share some of its technical highlights and specifications.

Please note: This is a FYI thread..... we have a separate sales thread HERE

Alloy Technic Mesh wheels are specific to the BMW marque.
They are 8000 ton Forged using 6000 series and strengthened with T6 treatment.

Weights:
20 - 9.0 ~ 19.8lbs
20 - 10.5 ~ 21.6lbs

Sizes and Offsets available:
20 - 9.0 et27: E9X M3
20 - 9.0 et06: E60 M5 / E63/E64 M6

20 - 10.5 et27: E9X M3 / E60 M5
20 - 10.5 et13: E63/E64 M6

Finish:
- Silver
- Black
- Charcoal
- Brushed/Clear

Hopefully in the future, ALLOY TECHNIC will consider building these in a 19x9 front and 19x10.5 rear fitment for the E9x M3, and M5/M6 cars.

I think Alloy Technic is selling themselves way too short here. If they don't fill that market gap with their new product line, someone else will. There is no doubt that 20" sizes should be offered. No argument there...

But they are going to lose a number of sales by not offering these wheels in a 19" 'tuner fitment' for the three M car platforms. The tooling and development costs could be spread out over these three paltforms. This would open the door for Alloy Technic to reach those buyers who are simply not interested in putting 20" rims on their car.

Contrary to what some may think, not everyone wants 20's on their car. The increase in NHV with a shorter sidewall, the more expensive tires, and the fact that some individuals think 20's are simply too big for the car will cause a number of people to shy away from buying 20" wheels. You might want to consider that, and offer a 19" version as an optional alternative.

As a successful up and coming wheel brand (with what appears to be an excellent product), it would be foolish to pass up every opportunity to reach as many customers as possible now. That will translate into repeat business in the years to come.

That is a sound and effective way to grow your brand name.

I really hope the owner of ALLOY TECHNIC sees this post, and reconsiders this decision. It would be a shame to paint himself into a corner, when so many of us want to purchase his products. (but they are not available in the sizes we prefer)

I would argue that a majority of wheel buyers who own E9x M3's (over 50%), would choose a 19" wheel fitement, over a 20" fitment on this Alloy Technic wheel style.

With a cross-compatable forging that can give Alloy Technic the offset range needed to build a 19" version on the M3, M5 & M5 cars, this is a definte possibility.

To the owner of Alloy Technic...

I read your response to my other question yesterday, and I understand your reasoning...to a point. I do believe you are playing your cards way to close to the vest, if you don't believe a new 10.5" wheel forging would pay for itself. I can promise you that the sales of a 19" version of the two new wheel styles will erase the tooling an developement costs in a very short time frame. You are underestimating the market for those who prefer a 19" tuner fitment version of your wheels over the 20" versions now available.

Please reconsider your decision, and give us a 19x9 and 19x10.5 option in the near future. This product has great potential going forward. Don't shut out half the market who want 19's instead of 20's. Thanks.

Look at this poll regarding sizing of another lightweight wheel option, the RAC RG63. Those wanting a 19" option outnumbered those wanting 20" wheels by more than 3 to 1.

I would like to see a 19 inch fitment also. I think a 19x9.5 with a 15 offset in the rear would be fine. A 8.5 inch front with decent concavity with a 15-20 offset would be fine also. I am satisfied with my stock tire sizes and with a 10.5 inch you need to go 285,295-30 which is shorter than stock or a 305-30 which is the same size, but I have heard 305 is to wide for handling reasons. They have the b9 already in similar sizes so maybe they can use that platform for this new wheel. I like this new design a lot.

I would like to see a lighter 19" or even 18" version as well. The 20" is just too big and I too agree with the above post.

I generally don't like mesh style wheels...but my god these things are beautiful.

One thing to consider with these wheels is due to the design and concavity they do not look large like some 20" wheels. The other most important thing, is these in 20" weigh less than most 19" wheels! It's crazy how light they are!

Which means that if they made a 19" application it would be even lighter, thus, resulting in a very successful wheel. Ill tell u one thing, a 20" wheel that weighs 20lbs and a 19" wheel that weighs 20lbs do not feel the same when driving hard.

BTW, the gunmetal ones r absolutely incredible. Do u have any side views of them so we can c how concave they r?

WOW Ok. I really like this wheel now lol. I did the whole 20" application and altho it deff looks awsome, performance wise, they dont compare with 19's. Get them to make the sizes mentioned above and u have my business. BTW, can u send me a quote anyway on these, u never know.

Nice looking wheel, can't argue with the weight. The "Y" is a little too pronounced IMHO...and the lack of a 19" is gonna hurt.

These are really nice too. What's the weight on these? Are these forged to the same specs?

you need the rears on fronts and a new 19x11 or 10.5 rears... Like the design.

Maybe I'm off, but I thought "mesh" style was like the old cross spokes? By common definition, mesh is a woven material.



Those are vey light. A little busy for my taste with the nine Y-spokes, but not bad at all!

I agree that 19s would be optimum.
