Since mine is 1/08, I am assuming I will need this part. I guess this is a dealer-supplied part. What do I need to ask for, exactly, in terms of model number, etc.?

We offer the part on our website as well - you're going to need a FRM3 as all MY08s I've seen within the last week have a CI:9.

That's a lot more than your estimate in post #81. This is getting to be an expensive project - $1,000+.

Yeah, it does, but I'm too far down the pike to turn back now. The cost will be forgotten in the end. I'm just hoping the coding exercise goes smoothly.

Tom, Mine is a 08/09 (E92 2010 M3) does this mean I'm likely to have a FWM3? or would I just have missed out?

I would have to say you likely have the FRM2, a pre-inspection with the autologic will determine for sure.

There may be differences between EU and US spec vehicles.

bummer about the FRM3 situation. it would impact me. $1000 for new tails is kinda tough to justify though i don't fault Tom. his customer service appears to be top notch.

Tom,

Are the 2 cables (61122181307) OEM or is it the harness that you're selling?

Also, you probably missed my post earlier but will there be any issues if a pre LCI was coded by Autologic for the tails and than later lets say....the car goes into the dealership for program and encoding update? Will that possibly erase over the Autologic coding?
I know that for example when the E46 M3's had the DME program recall, anybody who had Dinan software can kiss that goodbye. The program and coding from ISTA will overwrite it.

Thanks

I don't believe that part number is yet available, we have been supplying our own PnP harnesses since day one.

DME has nothing to do with taillight coding, FRM is completely seperate. Unless the FRM prematurely fails (never heard of this happening yet) and is replaced, in which the LCI coding will need to be re-applied to the module.

Software tunes can safely be applied with no threat to FRM coding. ISTA/P updates should be perfectly fine as well.

If FRM3 is installed then the LCI coding will not be overwritten at the dealer.
If coding becomes available for FRM and FRM2 then it will be a one off coding which will need to be reapplied if the FRM unit is recoded at the dealership.

Here are my actual european amber LCI tails sitting in the UK waiting to ship to me

The cable part # looks to contain 2 cables, so appears to be a left and right kit.

7252779
7252880
7251957
7251958
2181307 - cable kit

Note, these are for the european (amber) versions which aren't approved/legal in the US. Just thought you'd be interested to see them

I don't think the amber ones are illegal in the US, but just more expensive so we get the cheaper ones. Any possibility on doing the euro spec ones? I would prefer amber turn signals as well.

Not illegal, just not DOT legal.

US BMW counters will not offer or import this part if not passed by DOT regulations.

We scanned a 3/09 BMW 335 Coupe today, this was found to have a FRM2 module installed.

Let me know your results.

You can order them from bmminiparts.com and ecstuning.com. They only cost about $20 more than the US lights.

The downside is that those vendors have to import them from Germany, so they take a few weeks to get to your doorstep.

so what's the downside of not being coded besides the light flicker at startup?

That's it - all lamps still function normally, some builds will have a more rapid turn signal rate than others.

Coding will solve these issues.
