Do you know someone in Miami that will let you use their address to register the purchase of the car? If you already have a social security number maybe no one will check.

I could use a cousin's address who lives in MIA I guess... dont think he's gonna have a problem with that if I ask him.

My understanding is that you can take ED on any BMW except for the X5 and X3 because they are built in the US...

love ur route. wife & i are going to ED in Sept too to pick up her early birthday present. we also consider drive to Paris but since we just went to Bern 3 months ago so maybe we will be heading east this time instead. so far we're planning to Austria (Wien) first then head to Czech Republic (Prague). we also plan to go to Frankfurt for the autoshow. i'm not sure how she'll like the ''Ring'' idea but i'll just keep trying to make it happen.
The "Ring" is only 2 hours away from Frankfurt...my wife is not that into cars but she actually enjoyed being there...you HAVE to go and drive the Nordschlife...enjoy your trip

Thanks to all for the comments...Hope you all have the chance to experience ED some day...for those who already did it, just do it again!

I guess it's about time for an update. My car made it to Brunswick last Saturday (July 2nd). I was concerned that it would take longer to clear customs because of the holiday but to my surprise it has cleared customs and has been released to BMW today..I guess it's on its way or at the VPC now. I have not heard about my PCD re-delivery but hope have a date by the end of the week.

Here's my cars journey since drop off in Frankfurt on June 1st...

DELIVERED FROM BRUNSWICK, GA 05-07-2011 09:53:24
LINER RELEASE BRUNSWICK, GA 05-07-2011 09:46:46
CUSTOMS RELEASE BRUNSWICK, GA 05-07-2011 00:00:00
DISCHARGED BRUNSWICK, GA 02-07-2011 16:43:52 LOADED ON VESSEL BREMERHAVEN 14-06-2011 21:48:30
RECEIVED AT TERMINAL BREMERHAVEN 11-06-2011 08:07:57
BOOKED BREMERHAVEN 07-06-2011 21:19:18

That means 31 days from drop off to discharge in Brunswick and cleared customs in 3 days....actually 1 business day as it was discharged on a Saturday and Monday was a holiday... not bad

I'll keep you posted...

Ahhhh bad luck! I can see the disappointment from your face in the photos. I guess the official page @ http://www.nuerburgring.de/en/angebo...dschleife.html should have a more accurate Tourist drive days opening time for your next ED trip

My goodness i really want to do ED
Only thing is that i don't want to ruin the car... but if i'm there on the autobahn and nurburgring and alps...

How did that go for you? Are you a believer in hard break in or were you keeping it somewhat mellow?

My understanding is that if you service the car in Europe must pay out of pocket and then submit it to BMW NA for a refund.

Thanks for your comments!
PCD will perform the 1200 miles services, so no need to take it to any dealer after.

I just have re-delivery in PCD last Friday with 1459 miles when I drop it off in Europe and I didn't realize my car has the 1200 miles service done at the performance center until I went to my local dealer requesting for service this morning. It shown 85990088MP 1200 MI Service done 3 days before my PCD last Friday.

The reason they have 1/4 tank is that the BMW Welt building house over 200 cars so it is a fire hazard to have full tank in all the cars waiting for delivery.

Thank you very much for posting a picture of the most beautiful race car of all time, the magnificent Brabham-BMW BT 52.
Designed by the genius Gordon Murray and powered by a humble 1,500 cc R4 BMW turbo charged engine which produced....800 bhp

Great write up!

Great Pics/Story

Did a Munich, Nuremburg, Frankfurt, Stuggart, Munich trip last year...(unfortunately just in a rented 3-Series - not an M3) - but this definitely brings back memories...

Thanks for sharing!

Did you get a PCD date yet?

Mine's still showing as only discharged, no customs release yet. They must've found the dead hookers I left in the trunk.

The BMW site is showing at preparation center though so hopefully the shipping site is not up to date on my car.

I heard from Ryan Amico that my car did indeed clear customs even though the shipping company website doesn't show that.

So it's on now!!! Finally we can settle who is the most awesome Ryan Amico or David Aviles, and which is faster 6MT or DCT (and E90 vs. E92).

I'll race you to the performance center!
