Click the Sponsor forum here, under the Engine/exhaust section and you'll see a ton of options for exhausts, software/flash upgrades and filters

Significant gains come from removing the cats. If you just do the secondary cats, you won't have any issues with a check engine light. But if you take out the first set of cats, you'll need software to fix the light and get more power. AA, GIAC, Encore are a few that offer software.
Seems the exhaust is one way to go. Who exactly are AA, GIAC and Encore. I'd loke to explore via websites etc. Also, who might provide better Engine Software upgrades than Dinan

Awesome. I'm obviously asleep at the switch. I'll get the hang of this yet.

First 1200 miles, learn about the car, see how she brakes, accelerates, & handles. Since everyone's taste is different, you might want to address mods to your own needs. I always suggest to people that mod after your first service, because the first 1200 is very crucial to how the engine performs in the future.

As I purchased the car used, 13,000km didn't have to worry about the break in. It's been awesome from the get go. Also, the car was/is pristene, like new.

You had all the work done in PG? Or, somewhere else. How did the stuff you did impact any of the warranty issues? I know Dinan says they work with the BMW warranty.

Hey. Noticed you've used AA upgrades. Noticed your comments on the AA website also. Curious about one thing. Several people have mentioned Dinan costs more. Seems some of the AA stuff is higher costs. Looking for your Comments.

I agree about investing in the driver. I have been doing this for about a year and a half and have never had so much fun. And though I am in the B group at BNW CCA events I am still an intermediate driver at best. The car has almost too much capability in stock form for a novice but what the hell.

I agree. I take it you 're a memeber in the Puget Sound BMW CA. Seriously thinking about joining the chapter. Easier than driving to Calgary.

Hp & Tq Confusion

Wow! Guess I've got a lot of catching up to do. Been away from the car seen for a long time. Now that I've got the "ride" I've always wanted I'm back in. I've been getting lots of great info. I have a lot of research to do for sure. I am confused about one thing though. Hopefully someone can sort me out. I've read and seen some of the impressive gains you can make in HP and Torque with various mods. However, most of the shots of the gain made don't seem to reach the published BMW literature which says 414HP and 295 ft/lbs. Obviously I'm missing something here.

You must be confusing HP at the engine versus HP at the wheels. Dynos give HP at the wheels, which will always be less than at the engine (aka: crank) due to drivetrain loss.

In that order.

Don't bother with throttle bodies.
Pretty much dead on there. I'd even recommend driving your M3 in-between each mod to get the full feel for each.

A conversion factor is needed to get an estimate of crank power. Some use 1.21 for a rear engine car.
Also keep in mind that different dyno's will given different numbers. Some are more optimistic than others and even the temperature and humidity will affect the results of a dyno. It's mainly helpful to see if a mod you did gained any power, provided you use the same dyno. They can doe "Corrected" numbers to try to control for factors such as temperature/humidity.

Others will be able to give you more detailed info about dyno's.

Da. I figured that one out by talking to a good friend. Thanks for the confirmation.

And you suggestion for exhaust would be ? I've seen alot on the Dinan vs AA vs Gintani. I must admit what I like (sorta) about Dinan is the "try" to work with the BMW warranty. Seeing I have 5 years left (Certified pre-owned) it has some consideration. I've asked what the implication would be to use the Dinan center exhaust mated to an AA rear. Couldn't get a good response. Also as for pulley's, you thought's

For your 2008, pulleys will be the same across the board - go with a reputable brand like Rogue.

Exhaust is a whole different animal. Its best to attend local meets or events and hear them in person as YouTube clips really can't give what is experienced by actually being there.

There's a great exhaust thread here that has a lot of info:

M3 Exhaust Systems Overview
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=165145

Personal favorites are the Kreis-Sieg, Akrapovic, Eisenmann Race or Remus Sport.

Performance Pulley Upgrade vs Stock

Found an interesting article about the pros and cons of changing the pulley. Makes for good reading.

http://www.dinancars.com/bmw/technia...armonic-damper

I guess I'm being very cautious because the M3 is awesome, I do want to get a bit more out of it but, I'm reluctant to risk warranty issue.
