They state that recently?

At this point I'd say it will be in the 55-65K range. Trying to speculate the exact price of the car, especially when it is just a matter of weeks before official pricing comes out is a waste of time. I don't think that a base 59k vs one of 62.5k is going to a major impact on sales or our decision. It not like we are playing "the price is right" and have to guess the exact price. IF you can't afford a base of 62, then you shouldn't buy the car at 58k- just my two cents. Flame away

I think its been stated that the price should be 57,500.00. But speculation doesnt help anyone here. A DCT twin turbo for the future sounds might interesting. But anyways hopefully this become a dead issue soon.

I don't. When the price comes out i expect it to be in the 55-65k range. If the base is below (which I doubt) that would be great. If the base is above 65 (doubt it) then I'll re-look at other options and take it from there.

My point was that there is no need to debate whether it will be 57,345.62 or 61,543.93 base. Either way those who where going to buy one will do so at either price. Maybe if the base is higher, some will get less options to compensate.

No flame Gadget but my question was regarding the value perception IF the M3 comes in at or around $60K. This thread detoured off into price speculation but I was more interested in what posters thought in terms of value.

There have been some good posts here based on this. If you are looking at it from a value perception the answer is "no" it is not worth that $62,500 price tag. Simply because you could take a loaded 335i with performance and aesthetic mods and build a beautiful and wicked fast car.

However...for me personally...the most intriguing aspect of the new M3 among it many assets is simply the sound of that freakin' beast V8. That sound is sick and is the one thing you absolutely cannot replicate with the 335i.

IMO, the new M3 at below $60,000 would have good value, is the latest BMW marketing concept of having up to 40% of the base price in options what is diminishing for me the perceived value of most BMW's, not only the M3.

I guess that the Euro exchange is to blame for that, but damn... one local dealer has a $45,000 Cooper S JCW without Xenon's, a $75,000 X5 3.0 and a $71,000 535i. So the idea of a $80,000 M3 is not that far off... I would have to re-conceptualize what value in a BMW really means.

WTF! - I was going to say - but mate! I went on to bmwusa and lo and behold, I managed to test spec out a 535i for $71k - from a base of $49,400 ... over 43% in options ...that's phucked up! +

A 997 CS2 starts to look like an OK deal after all ...

A base 335i is ~ $41k * 1.4 = $57,400. Maybe BMW USA expects to get a bit more, but I think that given the lower base spec of the US M3 that would be a mistake, especially if they want to maintain scale.
Pretty close!
