its fun to drive but i dont take it out for pointless trips with no destination. thats why i never got into my motorcycles and sold them all. i do however go to the track to do this.

A few times a week. I live three minutes from work, so I'll usually detour through some country roads.

How do you decide what is a pointless trip and what is not?

I had that mindset when I got my first "nice" car. I ended up never driving it, and sold it, because I was always worried that I was "wasting" miles.

If I am considering a "not fun" trip where I will sit in traffic for hours or whatever I'll just take the bus.

pointless is when i am just going out to drive not to get anywhere. that is how i get in trouble on the street in both my car and bikes. sometimes i choose to drive my car to go do an errand or something i dont just drive in circles, other than at the track, for the hell of it. if i want to go fast and have fun i save that for the track, the limits are 10x that of the street and once i went had no desire to try and be a hooligan on the street. that is pointless. playing boy racer around town isnt fun because your leaving so much on the table.

Around here there are hundreds of miles of wide open roads which have close to zero vehicular traffic. I don't advocate speeding around town but backroads driving is for me the reason to own this car.

Track is fun and all but it is always a planned event which I have only so much tolerance for and can do so often.

yep to each there own. i must be getting old. dont enjoy getting crazy on the street even on back roads much. thats how i started out in this car and found better solution. i do however like to take certain entrance ramps at 2x+ the posted speed at times.

Rather than do "pointless trips", I take the very long way to many destinations on the weekends when need be. For example, when I need my cup o' starbucks, I take a nice twisty mountain road and some fast speed highways to a "nice" starbucks.

Two birds with one stone!

My Sunday morning Starbucks run (2 miles away) usually takes an hour and half.

Which reminds me, I really don't like the cupholders.

AMEN.

And while Car Meets are fun sometimes, the main reason I go is to drive to them and back I can only stand around chatting about a car I want to be driving for so long...

New here, just bought a '12 6MT e93 and its just sex. Downshifting and hearing that v8 scream up to 8000rpm as the wind rushes past my face is quite an experience I want over and over.

Yeah, the e93 really makes it fun. I just got the EAS exhaust mod and I love it - not too loud, but really adds an exotic technical sound IMHO, no drone, and is just at the line of where it's annoying to bystanders. I have the MS intake too - adds more intake sounds as well.

Most weeks I'll take my e93 into the canyons and down to the coast for a two hour drive: top down, no music ('cept the engine), just me.

The SF bay area is great for this, yesterday I went from windy mountain roads at 84 degrees to foggy coast at 64 degrees in about 30 minutes ... and along the way through redwoods, pine forest, and vineyards. Awesome!

Owning this car has really made me miss living in western Connecticut. There aren't any roads near me that can even come close to the back roads of Litchfield County, where most of the towns don't even have a police department, and some just have one resident trooper.

I had a consulting gig in Albany, NY and used to pick up RT 8 from Winsted CT, to Becket, MA when I had my '99 Boxster, and '02 Cooper S. In 3 years of driving that route twice a month, I never got tired of it. If you ever get over to Lime Rock Park, give that a try on the way back to Mass.

I usually take it out a lot just for fun, but get annoyed after because I have bug splatters on the entire front bumper

Two or three times a week I go for spirited and scenic drives. I can't imagine having an M3 and not going on fun drives to nowhere. The M3 certainly makes it about the journey and not the destination.
