Proper forum grammer...(ahem) grammar

Ok, I'm not an english teacher or anything close, but does some of the grammatical errors on this forum make you slightly annoyed? Also, people that use text language to the point where it's almost hieroglyphics!

I've been reviewing job applications and came across a cover letter that read: "I'm ure new (position being offered)..."

To summarize, if you know the difference between "to, too and two" you should be okay.

I need to eat a snicker's now, haha.

Both English and Snickers should be capitalized since they are proper nouns. It's also "do" and not "does" since you used the plural of "error." It's people "who," and not people "that."

And Snickers is plural whereas Snicker's is possessive. Fix your grammar please. Thank you.

It is annoying to see bad grammar but you have to get used to it anyway I suppose. The one that gets me giggling all the time is when people use "grill" instead of "grille" when refering to their car's grille. I always get this picture of Home Depot in my head when they are asking where they could buy a blacked-out grill.

What I do find appalling are people who graduate from highschool unable to speak even remotely close to proper English let alone spell. If they ever get a real job they'll need to sign their paycheck with an X... but they graduated some how?

BTW, I often mis-type and transpose letters when typing.
Yes, I agree with you. I have a threshold for grammatical errors, because I make some myself. It's mostly a minor nuisance. The major problem is when text language crosses over into the workplace.

Exactly. Also, I've seen in MANY ads where people will put "thread" instead of "tread" when referring to tires and "breaks" instead of "brakes"...

I agree with you but there also needs to be a bar set for reading apprehension and following directions. The subtopic of this forum is General Automotive. Threads like this belongs in Off-topic. Peace.

But Robert, we are talking general automotive! We're discussing how people dicuss cars and there lack of proper English to describe them.

It makes sense if you don't think about it

I'm a pretty bad speller myself and don't often worry about others, except when a self proffesed automotive brake expert starts patting himself on the back claiming to know it all about car break systems. The same holds true for those audio experts telling others their system is all wrong because of this, that and their base levels are to high.

You're not mocking him. You're simply pointing out the hypocrisy in his complaint. It's not sarcasm.

To help figure out whether something is sarcastic, say it out loud, and if you didn't use a sarcastic tone of voice, it probably isn't sarcastic.

If you had added something like: "What a fine grammarian you are!", then it would be sarcastic.

Note: I probably screwed up the the grammar somewhere in that last sentence. A quote with an exclamation point mid-sentence is not something I usually deal with. I think the comma goes outside because of the exclamation point, and I think you need a colon before a quote that's a complete sentence, but I'm not sure.

Because someone doesn't write in english as good as you do, it doesn't make you smarter than that person. I always tell people, because I speak with an accent, it doesn't mean that I think with an accent!!!

Please take your head out of the and move on.
