OEM CF Mirror Caps - What to do with the Foam?

Got my OEM CF mirror caps. BUT - came with a thin strip of EPT Foam about 6 inches long.

It looks obvious, but where does it go specifically? The original painted ones don't have this so any help is appreciated.

Around the edges of the mirror caps so water and debris can't get through. Painted ones don't need this because they're much thicker.

Would you put it on the bottom or the top?

Top. When I took my caps off the top was way dirtier than the bottom.

I saw a DIY where the foam is supposed to go on the bottom but who knows.

I put the foam on the top as Red Baron suggested. But Our parts dept. actually had this stuff on a roll. So I just added it top to bottom.

As an aside - these fit like crap. They look perfect, but they aren't really "tight." They take no effort to remove so I didn't feel comfortable they would remain on. I had to apply 3M VHB to certain areas.

I don't know if that's just the way it is or not, but I was surprised.

I didn't use the foam. It seemed to make the mirror cap come off pretty easy. I got some heavy duty 3M double side tape and applied it on the CF mirror caps. Parked the car outside the get it warm and pressed down on it pretty good. Now there is no gap around the mirror caps and it won't even budge.

I can be sure that no one can remove those off easily without a heat gun or prying off the mirror.

When I got mine, I received two different types of foam tapes, so I applied the thicker one around the top, and thinner one around the bottom.

I was surprised at this myself! Pretty lousy fit.. feels like they could just fall off!
